XTD 6 Puck Clutch

Hey does anyone know if this clutch is any good or is it just "EBAY crap?"
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/RX-7-...QQcmdZViewItem

My stock clutch is fried and I need to get a new clutch before my car can be tuned. If anyone has any other suggestions for a good clutch that will hold big power from a GT42R, please say so.
I am also looking for a lightweight flywheel to go along with my new clutch.

Thanks,
Phil

Just installed one in my car 3 months ago. Works GREAT and had no problems. Sprung hub so it is easier for streetability. Good combo for street strip without too much harshness, not to mention grabs like hell

unsprung is pretty much instant engagement. you want spurng if you're gonna drive it on the street. And believe me, even with a sprung puck clutch its still not that smooth.

sprung for street use, unsprung for strictly strip. The difference is how it engages. With it unsprung there is no shock absorbance when the friction disc engages the flywheel. With it sprung the spring asorbs the shock when the disc meets the flywheel. Imagine trying to grab onto something spinning 1000+rpm from a standstill.

Hey209FD have you had a chance to compare with someone who has an ACT S/S setup? I'm looking at clutches as well and also saw this clutch on Ebay. Was Just wondering how it compares to the Tried and true ACT. I'm probably at 280-300 WHP with my current mods, and I'm not planning on going any higher. I really am looking for a more streetable clutch that can still hold decent power, do you think this clutch would fit the bill?

I had the center force and it sucked for 325 whp. That was a waste of time and money. ACT or comparable center 6 puck w/ spring is the best step to hold at the next level.

Actually i havent compared it with one of the ACT clutches so i cant compare with one of them. Right now i have probably around 320HP, and is still holding fine. I have launched the thing probably around 20 times and its still fine. The thing i have heard about puck clutches though is that it tends to really chew your flywheel up, but i havent taken it off so see. The kit is actually all Exedy/dakin except for the friction material, which i guess is XTD's own special blend. They just paint the cover to make it seem like theirs. Even the throwout bearing is brandname-i dont remember if it was NSK or Dakin.

I drove my old FC with an act 6 puck unsprung on the street, it wasn't bad at all once I got used to it.

Looks like I am going to go ahead and get the XTD 6 Puck Clutch. Its a little cheaper than the ACT 6 puck. I am also ordering the ACT Prolite Flywheel. Hopefully this combo holds up well with a 500hp setup.

Why buy the XTD clutch? They have ACT clutches (4 puck, 6 puck) on ebay for around $90...the same price as the XTD. Then, just buy an ACT pressure plate off ebay for around $300 I believe. So for around $400 you have all new ACT stuff, and you would be spending $390 or so for the XTD kit, so for that difference, just get ACT stuff. Just do a little more looking on ebay trust me, you don't have to settle for sketchy XTD stuff.

Who said XTD was sketchy? Everyone has to startout somewhere, and it just happened to be that XTD started out on ebay. The pressure plate and bearings are dakin/nsk. Now to say those companies are crap would be stupid, as just about every japanese car manufactuer uses their products. Now the friction material is of XTD, and so far its been holding out good for me and other members here. If down the road it does crap out on me, then ok im wrong. But until then ill stick up for XTD. Im not trying to start a fight here but it just irritates me when people jump to conclusions without trying it first hand. Just because its on ebay and is a new company, doesnt mean its crap.

Well since my car is over 1200 miles away from me right now, the install will have to wait until Xmas break. Once I get it installed, I will let you guys know.
