wtf.... want to the track. drove like a beeatch???

o.k first time at track. had a problem with wheel spin that killed my 60' time. all in all a good night only lost one race out of five. red lit againt a zo6. would have gotten smoked anyway. he ran 12.6 screetched wheels the whole way down when he shifted. here' s the slip(best time) other four runs were all in the high 13's

r/t .676
60' 2.388
330 6.131
1/8 9.115
mph 84.22
1000 11.591
1/4 13.71
mph 106.87

any advice on how to launch it good will be appreciated. flame away if you want. smoked a wrx, cobra, old mustang 5.0 and a tt 300z. people were saying the track wasn't good tonight. don't know if that's what slowed me down. oh well time to go practice the launch. thanks for the advice or input in advance. kevin

driving lessons is the key I think

I ran a 13.5 flat with just intake, dp, catback and pettit ecu (that I didnt need since I kept the boost at 10psi, this probably made me run much slower since its incredibly rich) at 10psi and I was really pissed.
the temps were also about 70 degrees. my 60 foot was 2.204 on that run.
My times suck for what I have and your times suck more for what you have.

lets learn how to drive (me included!!) and make the rx7 look good guys come on.

People always say the track isnt doing well heh. If you can get your 60' time down your ET will drop dramatically. Your 60' time (aka your launch) will have more of an effect on your ET than anything else really. Try and go once a week and practice different ways of launching. Try different rpms to stage with and try different ways of useing the clutch i.e. drop it from diff rpms, slip it from diff rpms. Gennerally on street tires in a high power turbocharged car you will want to start with an rpm high enough to spool the turbos and slip the clutch so that you are accelerating as fast as you can without spinning the tires too much. Surprisingly, sometimes a small amount of spin will result in faster times . All it takes really is practice. Another problem may be your tires. Maybe get some junkyard rims and splurge on a set of slicks? Good luck man! Hope this helps...

I'll bet you guys are running street tires?
Without slicks you cannot rev high and drop the clutch, and it makes a good consistent launch quite difficult.
The proper way to do it is this: After staging rev to 3500~3700 rpm back off the clutch until just before the catch point. on the second yellow, ease out the cluch while pushing down on the gas. * do not let out the clutch too fast, it'll cause you to bogg or wheel spin depending on where the rev is at. do not let out the clutch too slow, you'll burnup your clutch.
All this is easier said then done, it takes a lot of practice to get consistent in mastering the hole shot (especially on street tires).
I have managed to get a 1.72 60' once, but it's usually around 1.9-2.1. In a drag race if you can get a good 60' time, you've got it made, unless you miss shift.

Damn man those are some sad time slips.

I have seen less modde cars run 12.4 or better.

You need to practice your launch.

My firdt time at the track a while ago with similar mods put me into the 13.3 area with a few 13.4's. My biggest problem, outside of my crappy 2.0 60', was my PFC was tuned my XS for a streetported motor which I was told I had. Later my motor blew up and to my suprise, no streetport. So for the longest time I was bitching that XS tuned my car way too rich but it ended up being me that gave them wrong information. But keep practicing and you should be able to put down some low 12's with those mods. A good set of tires will help a ton as well. Go ET streets, drag radials are a waste of money.

I think that the problem is mostly in your 60 ft. times. Practice should be able to make up the difference and allow your car to run significantly faster. I do have to say that if you are running 12.5 psi you should be easily in the 12's. I have the mods listed below and ran a 13.3 with a 2.0 60ft at 10psi. I do have a streetport but the intercooler and the midpipe should easily make up for that mod. I think that I can be easily in the 12's if I up my boost.

What kind of tires do you have? I know that can make a huge difference, because if you have a tire that is going to give you a lot of miles then it probaly will be a lot harder than a tire that is meant for performance. I have 245/45 Bridgestone Potenza RE730's and they are wonderful.

Tell me about it. When he said "track" I thought he actually went to a track ... not a strip. So much for my excitement.

how much is it to go to the "real track"
do you really think that I would just go to the strip if I could afford to get driving lessons and be able to open up my car on a road coarse?
I would cream my pants if I was able to open up my car around a track. I do enjoy doing the 1/4 mile though it's pretty exciting when you are racing a car thats close to yours and there are hundreds of people watching

You know, out of all the times at the track I don't think I ever thought about all the people watching.... which is strange cuz normally I get nervous when people watch me do something. All I can think about is the rpm's, the clutch, the staging lights, and the car next to me. Its kind of funny cuz EVERY time, my heart starts to beat real hard and my adrenaline starts flowing and then my leg starts shaking rapidly heh. Its almost like my left leg is going into siezures. But once the tree starts comin down all is forgotin and off I go. Damn what a rush.... I miss it :-(

(edit) you know I almost forgot.... the first time i went to the track I stalled it off the line and i was very embarrased at everyone seeing it lol. Once I locked my keys in the car in the staging lanes too and everyone was pissed and had to go around me hahaha. Oh man I miss racing. If i'm rambling sorry i'm a little drunk......

Where in Md. do you live? I have extra couplers and could put one on in about 5min.
MIR is in southern Md. (Budds Creek). Take 895-97South-Rt.3 (Odington exit) and stay on Rt.3 for about an hour. You come to a small town called La Plata, you'll see the sign for Budds Creek Rd. (not to mention all the ricers going down) Make a left and follow the road 10miles till ya hit the track.

there is a scary resemblance in our experiences

the very first time I ran the 1/4 mile I was incredibly nervous like what you described. I did everything but stall...my 60 foot time was a 2.862!! I wish I would have stalled! Then after that I lined up for a few more runs and I was totally relaxed. When I am racing someone on the street though and I know the car is worthy those symptoms come back like crazy especially the left foot (stay still dammit!!)
