And I must say....I'm SOOOOO glad I had access to a lift...it took MAYBE 30 minutes to get the spark plugs out, and replace them.

Hell..it took longer to get the car on and off the lift, and mop & clean up then it did to change them.

Granted...changing spark plugs isn't exactly brain science...but it's amazing how accesible they are from underneath the car.

Only way to go....

Anyways....there was a HUGE change of character for the car after the replacement...much, much more smoother. I simply replaced the current NGK 9's with the same ones.

I really need to get a dyno-tune, though...which I'm doing tomorrow. I've only had those spark plugs in the car for about 1500 miles, now...they were installed after the engine was rebuilt.

There was a huge amount of carbon build-up on the faces of the plug....is this normal? Stuff you could only scratch off with a screwdriver.

I know that these spark plugs are different from other ones, with the flat face and all..but man..there was alot on them. I'll take a pic in a bit.

idk about doing them from under the car, i can do them faster from above with out taking anything off. I am not double jointed or anything like that, it seems just a lot easier for me to do them from above.

 

Where are you having your car tuned at?

As for doing it from above...there's no way in heck I could get in there comfortably....it was just so easy..they're like RIGHT there in front of you...just so easy it's ridiculous.

If you drive in town, commute you should probably put 7s in the leading. Carbon build-up on the face is normal, 1500 miles isn't that long though. Since you probably haven't been running the car very hard the 9s will not get as hot and build up some more carbon deposits.

For track days, etc run the 9s.

mine takes 30 mins max from above. all I remove is the strut bar and the TB elbow.

 

Well..you don't have to remove anything if you do it from underneath....like I said..simple.

 

when i do it from above, it take me like 5-10 mins. perhaps its the wrench im using or something (got it at Ace). I dont take anything off, they seem to be very accessible from above, you can see the plugs right there...

Idk, perhaps its cuz when i do it from below, im kinda afraid that the car is gonna crush me

 

what kind of plugs you guys are using?

 

NGK BUR9EQ...I think is the plug...do a search for it..

Oh..and ya..I wouldn't probably do it from the bottom if I didn't have a lift available. I don't have a garage, and I live in an apartment complex, so I'm VERY limited with what I can do.

If my apt. manager caught me changing plugs...she'd freak.

 

You could prob just clean your old plugs and re-use them if they're only 1500 miles old, can't u? It seems like such a waste to be changing plugs faster than normal cars have their oil changed

Did you also change the plug wires? When I did both I felt a huge difference in how smooth the revs were while driving.
Ditto when I got an HKS twin power

 

Pretty much everything was replaced on the engine as far as hoses, metering lines, and the spark plug wires when the engine was rebuilt...so ya..heh.

I didn't get an HKS TP, though.

Get rid of your power steering and air conditioning. Not only does it cut weight by about 30-35 lbs., but it makes it infinitely easier to change the plugs without pulling anything off the engine.

 

or just pull the motor and custom build a V8 for your car... the plugs will be cheaper too
