Would these oil coolers work???

I was doing some poking around thinking it would be nice to save a little on that $800-1000 dollar price tag of dual or upgraded oil cooler setups. What does everyone think of this water cooled setup if used in conjunction with a nice radiator such as koyo or fluidyne??:

water to oil cooler

Seems like a nice and less expensive alternative, but would it work? And I would prefer info from those who have tried these products or something similar.

On the other hand, if thats not the way to go, how about B&M's super coolers which are made for NASCAR?? Wouldnt they apply as well?? what do you think of these??:

Hate to break it to you, but there is a reason those kits cost that much. The oil coolers themselves are not all that expensive. However, connecting them up to the 13B-REW and mounting them to an FD is the expensive part.

The problem is that you are going to add an additional failure point (i.e. another possible area to leak coolant). They have advantages over air cooled oil coolers, but you probably wouldn't realize the benefits unless you were using one on a race car.

Those kits are for V8s. How do you plan to attach it to a 13B? How do you plan to mount it? There is no thermostat included. The height of those are about double the size of the stock oil cooler. That will be pretty much wasted unless you are changing your bumper to one with larger openings for the oil coolers.

If you REALLY need larger dual oil coolers, you are going to pay for a good kit as you'll see that they really are worth the money; or you'll be fabricating everything you need without even asking how to do it here on the forum (even then it's not going to be cheap money wise or time wise). However, it really sounds like something you don't really need.

To add to what Mahjik said -- what are your current oil temps? What do you hope to achieve by "upgrading" the oil cooling system?

Please do a search under oil cooler and my username....you will find threads where the TRUE costs of upgrading the oil cooling system are posted.

Two oil coolers + radiator can reject more heat than just the radiator. Since the radiator is generally already at or near its limits for shedding heat from the water, it doesn't seem like it would be up to the task of also cooling the oil.
