Question Wost thing about RX7's???

Whats up everyone, I am looking very hard for a 3rd Gen RX7 but wanted to know what are the drawbacks of these cars. I know everything that is good and great about them. I would also like to know what to look out for when looking for a 1993-95 RX7. I am interested in one that has 60K which is pretty good i think for a 1994. Any opinions are welcome.

the worst thing, is when it's raining outside, and you open your hatch...then all the water on the hatch lid runs off and drips into your trunk...

No, you will want to do some research before jumping into one of these cars.
Here's a good place to start:

LOL, that's hilarious... I hate that! Just as bad is when there's water on your roof and you pop open the sunroof (if ya got one). Woops!

worst thing...hmmnnn..honduh owners thinkin they are anyweres near as fast as you, rain, when it gets cold and you cant wash every other day,

but theres no worst thing..yea the stock form of the car dose have some downfalls, but upgrading these makes the car faster, mor reliable, and the beast you always dreamed of.. its deff not a mantince free car, the more you care for it the better it will run,

but i love every minute ive had my fd, yea there were some rough time with stupid problmes, but now its gonna be the beast ive always wanted

how many people can say they have a car that lays down 500+hp @ the trac, then drive arround on the streets and be cal as can be

(the calm as can be statmen is pure bs, i drive it like i stole it!! )

DA MONEY!

They cost $14000 and then they cost another $14000 at some not yet determined date.

BUT, You just have to suck it up and let it ride.

Thanks guys that helped alot especially the websites. What are some must do things to promote reliability. I think so far, changing fluids to redline in the tranny, the TSB's, a downpipe, boost gauge are some important things, Anything else i should worry about?

Thanks for all the replys,

Living in Houston, definitely get an upgraded cooling system. I recommend a Pettit AST and Fluidyne Radiator (what I have) because that's worked for me, combine that with a dp and things should be great on the cooling front.

Unforntunately the one i was interested in, was sold, it was a good one too!! But there are two others one is a 1994 black touring automatic with an exhaust on it already. The other is 1993 red touring with manual They both have about 69,000 miles on them. Is the difference between manual and automatic that big where i should definately go with the manual?? I am afraid i would grow tired of it (yeah right) Anyone that knows what i mean please let me know your experiences

Thanks,
BTW, this forum is really great i hope i can get one soon

The worst thing is that the upgrading gets addicting, it seems like every week you HAVE to buy something for your 7, and another "worst thing" is they envoke dreams of 1000hp 3 rotor FD's....

I've just got a FD this year, pure stock one, never got modified. I'm not planning to mod it neither. But I've read that if you are planning to modify a FD, make sure you get your ECU change/tuned everytime you change a part. They say that is due to the throttle system of the FD. If your ECU remains unchanged while doing all other mods, you will run the car lean which leads to an engine blow-up.

That's what I've read, I don't know myself if that's true. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

im in total agreement with squared, get the manual, don't be a total *****!!! youll problally also want to go with a manual conversion in about 3 months anyways, and it will problally cost a bunch and not work right. i think manual is a lot more fun, go with the manual!!!

StreetDemon, if you somehow decide to get the 7 with the exhaust already on it, see if the dealer will tell you who and how old the last owner was. Put it this way. If YOU owned an RX7, and were going to sell it, the last few days you owned the car, dont you think you would dog it out, just to get one last kick out of the car before you let it go? Especially if you already bought an exhaust for it (which means he may have street raced it)?

I know it may sound weird, but im a teen, and i know how teens act, so im just passing on what i currently know as so you wont waste money on a car on its last limbs.

the worst thing for me is the freakin ratts nest of vac lines. who in the hell spent so much time making it difficult to work on these cars. all i can say you better learn to work on your car or have a good mechanic available, you will need one at some point in the future. its just so hard to trouble shoot every little thing in that engine bay.

I agree - I need a good cup holder - I commute daily in my fd and the lack of a cup holder for my morning coffee realy annoys the heck out of me.
as for the Auto - yes in "D" it is a real dog but learn to use the "Hold" Button and "S" for spirited driving. ("Hold" not only locks in the desired gear it holds the converter in lock-up for engine braking)

Talking $$$$ pit

An Rx-7 is a hole in the pavement you throw money in! Between things breaking and a never ending list of upgrades I HAVE TO buy! But I swear after the Toyo radiator and a fuel pump upgrade that's it, really, I swear.

On the other hand every time it is running right, I say "I love this car". I actually had a dream about driving mine last night! :p Think I'll get off the stupid internet and go live the dream. Later!

I love this car, but its a damn good thing I have a good job cause I'd be bankrupt if I didn't . The worst thing about the car is also the best thing. Go figure. The engine! Very, very tempermental. Don't even think of getting more than 2 mods w/ out an ecu upgrade.

These cars are not very friendly to large people. One of my friends is 6'3" and it's not real comfortable for him and another friend is like 250lbs and he hates riding in FD's. They squish his fat I guess, he likes his Honda Prelude because it lets a big man feel comfortable. That must suck to have to buy a slow car so you can fit in it.
