Thinking of removing these 2 items. Any thing I should be concerned with. How is no PS at high speeds, over 170mph? Anyone have experience with this?

Also how much weight has anyone saved by removing this stuff. It looks like it will save weight and clean up my engine bay even more. Just did a T-78 and the bay looks so much more organized and simplified.

No P/S is more stable at high speeds. The only downside is at very low speeds. I'm ditching the P/S just to clean up the engine bay, but I'm keeping the A/C due to the whole living in Florida thing.

I'm in CT and can live without the AC! When you say low speeds like 25mph or like 10 mph?

I'd think the slower you go the harder it gets to steer, so as you gradually increase speed the easier it gets to steer??

I figured you wouldn't need it.
No, speeds like in a parking lot. It's only really problematic when you're pulling out of parking spaces, or trying to parallel park, or pull a U-turn. Not a big deal at all.

Awesome. Its coming out then. I can always reinstall. Any problem with removing the AC when using a haltech e6k? I know I have to remove the freon first.

Any other things I should be aware of?

You will want to remove the stock power steering line. I have always removed AC and PS from my FD's. Only problem I have is doing U-Turns. But just get on the gas a little and bring the rear around.

Here are the part #'s for the loop for the PS.

Just hit up summit and search mfg part #'s.

Jesus Christ..... At 170mph the car would respond the same with or without p/s (i.e. u will crash and die if your hand twitches). The p/s loses it's effect the faster the car goes. At high speeds it doesn't do anything other than dampen any feedback from the road.

p/s and a/c were gone a long time ago....I miss the a/c more. Okinawan Heat is hotter than Florida weather...as quoted from a guy who lived in South Beach.

GoneSilent, thank you for the info. As for r0t0r-rooter, what is your dilema? What does Jesus have to do with this? And secondly, if you cant respond in a mature manner, dont respond. By the way have you ever been in a car traveling close to 200mph?

JUst ordered the stuff from BCI. number is 1-800-533-1320. The prices were less than summit racing and they ship ups ground for free. Got it all for 60.00. Very nice people as well!

Is there any special way to doing this?

I'm going to pull everything out of my engine bay (already have the motor and tranny out) to have it painted and I figured I would keep the PS out.

If I order the parts above... do I just take the PS out and do the loop like in the picture? Do I have to worry about fluid in the line or air in the line?

You're going to keep the power steering rack and make into a manual? That would be the wrong way to go. Your steering efforts are going to be more than what a normal car with a manual rack would be. Just taking out the PS pump does not make your steering rack a manual. It is still a powered rack but without the pump powering it and that means it's going to take lots more effort to steer and could possibly break your steering shaft. Just to be on the safe side, I would get a manual steering rack like I did. They are cheap, like under $100. Good luck

I have used the loop as it is in the pic now for 4+ years and never had a problem. Please post info on the manual rack. I have never seen one in an FD.


ViperEater: What part is back ordered the banjo bolt? If it's the bolt I have a few extra here.

Yes it was the banjo bolt. I just ordered everything from BCI. I got everything you told me to get including the hose. Everything came to 60.00 bucks. Not bad!

There are a lot of cars running with the P/S pump removed with no problems. I have heard of people putting in a manual rack, but the problem is that the mounts are not the same. Do a search for this. Gordon had a few threads regarding this same issue. His username is gmonsen.

No PS or AC for a long time. Low speed is not as bad as everyone says it is, unless you are a big *****.
I also suggest you get an Unorthodox Racing R main drive pulley. Its for FD's with out PS, AC or the airpump. They are going to stop making it soon.

If you remove the power steering pump and install a loop hose, it's OK but the List Wisdom(More of you guys should read the List) is that the quill shaft may break with that conversion.

Currently I have the loop modification but I have been meaning to modify my rack so that I won't have a problem with the quill shaft.

I'll post the info on modifying the quill shaft when I get home.
