Is it worth rebuilding?

my pride was toasted last august. i'm just wondering is it worth rebuilding her. i know the motor and tranny ecu is still good, but i haven't done much body work, so i don't know if it worth rebuilding the body when it was in a fire. i don't that some wires are burn but i'm a electrican so i should be able to repair those. lmk what you guys think. if not rebuild, then i'll just wait till i have enough money to buy a shell.

This makes me so sad inside to see an FD down like this my heart goes out to you man. To be honest i think its too far gone with the extensive interior damage and on top of that you would have to replace every body panel on the car. pull the motor, salvage what you can then scrap the car at a metal yard and get what you can for it. seems kind of savage but thats about all you can do. by the time you fixed it you could have bought 3 FDs.

As a street car, as it was stated above, not worth rebuilding. As a track car, maybe. Depends on what all was in the garage when it went up. Go back and figure out what was in the garage when it burnt, and determine how hot the metal got. If it hit a certain critical point, all hope is lost for the metal, as the grain structure has been altered, and it is no longer safe. If it were me, i'd strip it, cage it, and turn it into a track *****. Not pretty, but effective.

After looking at the pictures from the thread where you originally posted that it burnt, it looks like your dash is still in decent shape (all things considered), along with your interior plastics. This indicates that the fire wasn't too intense, but I'd still say build a track car.

Someone mentioned in your other thread about having the little bastard's nuts meet some fireworks. I watched a clip of Rescue 911 a few minutes ago but that got me thinking of a much better idea

here's the clip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qLUKwQea8TM

Introduce his nuts to your exhaust manifold! One of the rescuers mentioned that it was up to 1200 degrees. Imagine what 1800-2000 from a rotary would do!

definitely find a new shell and move whats salvageable over.
to return that thing to the way it used to be (if thats even possible anymore) would cost as much as 2 fds

OMG you poor man! I thought this was going to be about a blown motor... UGH!!! Unfortunately it would cost your 3-4X the cost of just buying another FD that's complete. I would part out what you can...

oh man sorry for the loss.. and yeah that's not rebuildable too much blood and sweat to bring that baby back.

Question what makes you think that the motor is ok? I lost my first FD due to a small engine fire. Seriously my fire was rather small, it contained itself only on top of the engine bay. After the fact the electrical system still worked believe it or not. Though it was a small fire it warped the rotor housings.

Edit- so what happened here? it almost seems like someone poured gasoline all over it then struck a match.

I'd say get a roller and try to get as much of the undamaged parts and source them over. Hard sight on the eyes man. What happened?

i remember reading something a while back saying that someone in his apartment complex stated a fire and it spread to the garage and toasted his FD.

but to keep with the thread look for a shell, it sucks that your pride and joy car was destroyed, it would be smartest to build on a chassis that you know is solid and you never have to worry about the car breaking in half when your driving it. it sucks to see this car go to waste but its whats safest for you as a driver and its eaiser to just build up a roller.

FD's are CHEAP now.

Salvage what you can and move to the next FD. IT will cost you too much money to bring that back.

You guys suggesting a rebuild are really going to have to explain your reasoning because I am completely missing the logic of it. Rebuilding this car is going to cost at least $10k and probably closer to $15k, with hundreds of hours spent scouring for parts, arranging painting etc., while the car sits for possibly years taking up space. The resale on said car when completed would be practically nothing because if its history.

Why do this when you could buy a perfectly good FD for $10k and a really nice one for $15k?
