My friend had a 500hp mustang and he had the entire exhaust system coated. It made a HUUUUGE differance. Big enough to go from sweating in the car to NOT sweating anymore in the car.

I'm gonna get my DP and MP coated, and I already have my upper intake and Y-pipe coated.

I've got my downpipe coated with Jet-Hot 2000 and it does make a huge difference in underhood temps. With the exhaust components the 2000 degree coating is a must, but with the intake manifold and other stuff their standard coating will be more than adequate. The 2000 coating only comes in grey or blue, whereas the standard can be done in lots of colors including a nice polished look.

you have another option which is what i did, i used DEI exhaust wrap even after a hard run you hardly feel any heat comming off the pipe it works great. I had jethot on the bronco i used to have it worked almost as good but didnt hold back as much heat

Can the jet hot coating be applied to a stainless DP that has been used for a while or can it only be applied to new exhaust components? Where do you get the coatings applied? What would it cost for a DP?

As to thermal wraps, I have read that they retain heat in the metals that they wrap such as exhaust pipes which is harmful to the metal resulting in lower life of the exhaust component. Is this true?

The wrapping is good, but one of the benefits of the jet-hot coating is that it will prevent your metal from oxidizing.

oxidation will not happen with high grade stainless only with mild steel and low grade stainless(which is brownish in color)

Jet-Hot Coating

Jonesboro,

I just got my DP back from Jet-Hot with the 2000 coating. It is a PFS stainless DP that was new and cost $84 for the coating as well as the return shipping. From the literature that I got from them a used pipe can be coated as easily as a new one.

and you can get a mild steel DP (not spend the more $$ n the SS) and get THAT coated. It wont corrode like the SS, and you will also have it coated.

BE sure to have it coated inside and out, otherwise if you just coat the outside, the heat will still be absorbed by the metal and with the outside coating, it won't be able to "breath, air cooling effect. An inside coating will allow the heat to keep on going through the system. I've had a M2 DP coated inside and out for 2 plus years now and I've had a hi-flow cat and now a MP and even with the extra heat going through them since its just flowing pretty much past the DP, I've had no trouble with the cat getting to hot or any other side effects.

i got mine coated, too, but it was an HKS mild steel DP. jet-hot 2000 is definitely what you want for your exhaust components for this car (that's what the sales rep told me, too). i also got my efini y-pipe coated in jet-hot 1300 sterling. not exactly a polished look, but pretty close.

i don't know what kind of difference it's made as far as coated vs. non-coated since i got mine coated before i put it on, but i do know that i don't get that blast of hot air anymore that you get whenever you open your hood after a drive. don't get me wrong, the parts in the engine that get hot are still HOT, but the underhood temps have definitely decreased.

if you've already got the exhaust manifold off, i'd say send it off to jet-hot to get coated. it's not that big, so it shouldn't cost that much. i got my DP & y-pipe coated for $97 (including shipping back to me), and they originally told me $84 for just the DP.

good luck.

According to there site they can do used parts and still provide a 3 year warranty.

They told me they always do it inside and out, but it doesn't hurt to ask again

Hey Thanks for the reply's I am sorry I took forever to reply to this post but I have been very busy. Anyhow I spoke to Jet-Hot today and they rep{chris} told me that they do not coated the inside of the intake In my case {lower intake manifold} because has something to do with air-flow? Also they do not recommend to coated the inside of the exhaust manifold that is bolt to the engine because the coatings could come to piece's and go into the turbos and destroy it. I am planning to go with they 2000 coating on my exhaust manifold I hope that will help with most of my heating problem underhood.

I'm Sold!

I just shipped my used DP to Jet Hot in Mississippi for the 2000 coating. They quoted me $20 per foot plus shipping. I'll let you know how everything turns out.
