sorry for your troubles, a position nobody wants to ever be in

however some of the people replying aren’t proving themselves to be of any better character/judgement imo. Mob instigators in particular who otherwise have no part in the dispute are the lowest of the low in that regard.

I know somebody who bought a rebuilt engine from there 8 months ago maybe, a Mazda reman as I recall, and didn’t have any problem. This being a service issue is sort of a different deal and has consideration in that regard.

I am sorry to hear about all this. I will not go into detail with all the issues I had over the years, but I will say I will stopped taking my car there awhile ago.
Sometimes a business can live off a name from past accomplishments. Lets be real, Pettit's accomplishments were quite some time ago. People change. I can assure you Pettit is not what it use to be. I estimate they have cost me around 7k.

It is a very sad day for me to say this as I used Pettit for 2 FCs way back in the day religiously. I would be VERY cautious with Pettit.

IRP is starting to slide.... I cant get a damn refund for my alternator still This is like going on months.... funny it took me seconds to send the money..... like what the hell is going on with these people!!??!!

Florida shops worth considering.

Kilo Racing. Very old school, but I believe Jesus is still honest.
Lowe's Automotive I think it is .... Mike Lowe in Tampa.
Mazda Pros Hollywood, FL. Edgar is his name. Expensive, but I believe him to be honest. I think he use to work for Pettit waaaayyy back in the day.

Other than that and out of FL
Ari at RX7.COM
Chris Ott, and Banzai all seem reputable still. I would love to say IRP, but the issue I am having now is just insane.

I will give Full Detail Automotive a try!!

The ones I listed are the ones I have used and can give a bit of a review. I am sure there are many others.

We should probably go back on the business pages and start updating the good, bad, and the ugly.

I hesitate to chime in here, but, like many have said about Pettit and others... Their Glory Days were quite a while ago. While I disagree with Testrun on IRP, which I see as probably the best shop in the northeast, Pettit's time has come and gone, like Peter Farrell earlier. KDR become Speed1 and had issues and closed. I think Kilo Racing and Banzai are the other 2 shops I know of east of the Mississippi that are good.

I have not had the pleasure to get mechanical work done with IRP... I have purchased from them a few times. I am simply waiting on a reimbursement and can not seem to get it. I would prefer not to go into details, but it would seem if getting a simple reimbursement is an issue, I am not sure how other jobs would go at this point.

Honestly, it's a wonder that the RX-7 has as much support as we have right now. These cars' heyday is long past, and Mazda barely supports anything beyond mechanical components. The only reason the FD has had a resurgence lately is a combination of the 25 year rule and anything from the Gran Turismo era (FR + Japanese + '90s) became an asset class to hedge against inflation.
Unless more reputable shops and vendors spring-up, we're kind of stuck with who is out there now.

Bryan Smith at Rotorsports in Charlotte, NC should be added to that list. Small shop, no big social media presence, but everything hes done for me over the years has been top notch and delivered in a timely fashion. Sucks about pettit, and I'm starting to hear some stuff about irp here and there, hopefully they get back on track. Hey, it could be worse. Imagine having dealings with those angel guys, I've heard some terrible stories about them!

I would have taken my car to Rotorsports/Bryan, he's much closer, but there's a significant line to get in there. He's worked on my car before, no complaints whatsoever.

I am still waiting on my reimbursement from IRP.... seriously I guess I will put up a thread titled the same as this, but swap Pettit for IRP. They have 2 alternators and my $427+. I am so confused
They kept my core (said it was unusable even though it worked better than the alternator they sold me), I bought one outright which I paid over $427 and never gave me a penny back after I returned it. They accepted the return so it wasn't like it was blindly returned, yet I recieve no $ back? I am now I am out an alternator and $427? That seems very suspicious to me. I am now at the pissed level...

I am confused because it takes seconds to fix this issue. It took seconds for me to buy.

Seems like they’re all going Full Toilet now, including the other company being recommended given the last two engine overhaul attempts in DJSETO’s build thread.

To provide an update: I've not once heard from Cam/Pettit and I don't think they have tried talking to the credit card company either, though they may have and I just didn't know about it.

I was awarded a chargeback in my favor for *most* of the cost.

I'm still stuck with an air pump delete kit and a pettit bov kit that I never asked for, and the labor they charged to put it on. Since those are still on my car, I didn't ask for the full amount, but I did get awarded what I paid for and didn't receive.

Really unfortunate it came down to this, but looking back on it, as long as they've been in business and as much experience as Cam has, I find it hard to believe it was anything other than just being outright deceptive.

Not to get into it as it only makes me upset...

My experience was much the same in the last week of June with Cam. For what it is worth, he was pleasant despite being in and out of the hospital. I hope he regains his strength and reputation.

For me... I'm left with a list of broken parts and unfinished work to do on my own. Can't trust anyone.

Im getting the feeling we may be in need of a rx7club review section. Better here than facebook or wherever the most popular place is at the time to rant and rave. Be a little better and more moderated than those places. Seems a lot of older established shops are not operating in the ways on which they built their reputations.

I've got one of Lowe's engines. Still going after 12 years. A little low compression, but still pulls strong to redline.

pettit shenanigans

i had my 93 fd shipped to him three years ago and he installed a new motor and spent the time to replace the ac that had been removed. it was luck that i was able to get the vehicle back to jacksonville. i have had so many problems with the idle and other issues. he was supposed to repair the rats nest connectors to make sure the sequential system worked properly. i removed the uim two weeks ago and found the connector wires cut and many of the solenoids not even hooked up properly. his group accidentally installed the leading and trailing plugs in the wrong order. i was so excited about getting pretty much a solid working car and i have a **** show that requires me to have to remove the twins and go to a single turbo kit just to get around the damage to the harnesses. thank god i have a tuner in jacksonville that has helped me.

I am definitely not going to try and stick up for them, but are you aware that many of the solenoids are not used on a simplified setup? Every shop has their own little way. The plug situation is a whole other thing obviously.

Why not just get a new harness instead of going single turbo? Unless you already have plans to go single?

A new harness is waaaay cheaper than a single turbo kit, and good insurance with cars of this age.

I am not making excuses for Pettit either, I’ve had my own issues with shops.

What's most telling here is that Petit hasn't come on here to acknowledge nor defend themselves...
