Anyone know the dimensions of the stock o-rings (ie Radial Cross Section, Axial Cross Section, Inside Diameter)?

 

from others:

size 175 (AS568 o-ring std), 9" nominal.

8.987" ID, .103" x-section

 

I have been following this thread since it started. I am pleased to see that most everyone has adopted a more mature way of discussing the issues.

While all of the theories mentioned are very interesting, I am not convinced that o-ring failure is due to anything other than the heating/aging process of rubber. It's a fact that rubber gets harder and more brittle as it ages. Throw in the engine heat, and that lessens their life even more. That's why old tires don't stick like new ones.

As others have mentioned, better materials are sure to extend o-ring life. But, as long as we are using rubber, better keep that engine cool........

 

If you just need a liquid thats not conductive.... mineral oil...... its just kinda thick thats all.. I use it to cool my computer. I have it sitting in a 10gallon tank of the stuff.. runs so cool.

Wow, what an interesting read. This has probably been the most informative post I ever read. Big thx to certain people ruining it for us with their unnecessary cursing and bashing.


Maybe other theories are right, but this is the only theory that can't be wrong
