Why not to use paper gasket on front cover

Did you use the stock O-ring and white plastic ring around the O-ring? The metal gasket IS better but I've built many engines with the stock gasket/o-ring/plastic ring with zero problems.
Also, to properly fix that you really need to either drop the oil pan or pull the engine and drop the oil pan. That's the only way you can properly re-seal the oil pan. On my FC I screwed up a LOT of stuff under the front cover on my first engine build and I think I did like 6 front cover jobs until I figured everything out (painful learning process) and doing a front cover job in the car SUCKS. I would hands down pull the engine on any RX-7 that needed anything under the front cover, you're way ahead of the game doing it that way.
