why is my charge light coming on?

My battery is a under a year old, and my alternator is new.
Ideas? I guess the alternator could be faulty, but i'm thinking it's deeper than that. A short maybe?
Any help would be appreciated (i'm a little bit towards the end of my patience with this car).

Actually, now that i'm not in a drunken stupor, maybe my water pump? Would a failing water pump slow down the belt movement enough to make th exhibit these symptoms?

no. but a open in + the wire to the alt, loose terminlal, bad alt, loose belt, . get a volt meter and start the car see what the reading is on the battery. make sure the alt is getting 12v on the nut in the back.

Have you had the alternator tested? Some people have had problems with rebuilt units, assuming it isn't brand new. It's already been stated, but is the belt tight?

The alternator may in fact be bad(just my luck). I'm fairly certian it's making noise, and the belts are tight(so it's not them).

Shops that have been rebuilding the alternators without putting the Mazda rectifiers have not had good luck with them lasting any length of time. I'm not saying they won't work just that they fail more often than hold up. Jack

Do you have a PFC to tell you your system voltage or another way to tell?
