Why is it fd3s and not fd3? where does the S come from?

Well this may seam like a funny question especially because of my board name but really where does the S come from in fd3s?

I don't see how either of you answered his question, there's no 'S' in my VIN number and I don't see mention of an S in the VIN deciphering page except for the year model code, which comes later. I'd like to hear an explanation as well, just for my personal edification.

Exactly I have always wanted to know as well. There has been no "S" in any of the fd vins I have had.

The answer is: It came from Japan, the origin of the RX-7. The "S" is not in U.S. V.I.N.'s, just like the "series" (x) came from Austrailia

It is the chassis code. Like the skyline GTR's are BNR34, BCNR33, and BNR32. 2nd gen RX7 is FC3S just designated by the manufacturer.
