We would if they combined both 3rd gen and 2nd gen timeslip forums into one drag racing forum.

No we dont.

As damonB said, we already have a race section. And like someone else said, how many times do you see an FD at the drag strip when you go there?

The sections we have on this site now related to drag is fine and has more than enough topics and information regardling anything you need to know about drag (well most). We dont need to add another section unless we remove one. Cause i bet its gonna get less traffic than the rx7 audio/visual forum.

Opening up a new forum takes a negligible amount of space. It takes gobs and gobs of threads / posts / etc in a forum to make the database tables grow to an amount sizeable in vbulletin.

There is no information on this forum about drag racing and what little information there is, it's spread all about the forum ***** nilly.

Okay, that's a nice blank statement. How about you prove your point, now?

LUPE, im not posting to be against having a drag forum. I just dont think its a great idea because it wont get as much traffic as it should get.

Our car is not known to be a "drag" car. So your list of like 10-20 people who i barely see post (not saying they dont post) should say alot, which means there is no popular demand that we should open one.

That little section we have right now is more than enough, not like that gets FILLED with topics that should be answered but cant because its not viewed alot.

People don't post in those small places because nobody go's there. Why ask a question there if it won't get answered? What comes from the factory as a drag car? It's what you make it. The list of people I posted are serious drag racers, there are tons of people who are amatuer drag racers/weekend drag racers.

Why is there a general rotary forum when you can find the same answers in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd gen forums? Why is there a general car forum when you can find that on off-topic.net? Why is their a lounge when there is off-topic.net?

A Drag Racing forum would atleast be useful for rotary owners.

But thats what i dont understand.

If we open up a drag forum, whats going to be discussed there? Just think about it, its gonna be everything you will find/already know from other sections of this forum that we already have.

Sorta like opening up the rx7 visual/audio. Every time someone posts a FD pic on the 3rd gen, they move it to the visual/audio. How many times do you see that a week? Maybe once? AND they are originally posting it in the 3rd gen section which gets alot of traffic. When a mod moves it, it leaves a ghost thread link so it will transfer them to the visual/audio, and that section still gets no action. Same situation here, why separate drag topics when we barely get them in the "main" sections of the forum? Or i mean in the sections we know where they are at.

Continuing with this theme, lets roll everything up into 3 forums: 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gen. kthx.

i have posted things in the race car section, and it never gets seen, let alone replied to.

get rid of 2 forums, open 2 forums. if they dont get enough traffic, then close them. it is that simple.

I say open a Drag sub-forum and atleast give it a shot. If it doesn't get the traffic that it should then you can always delete it. Hell, what is it going to hurt to just try?

The debate is retarded. I had a small site for a short time, vintagerotaries.com I ave been at the admin panel and the time it takes to create the extra forum is all of two hot seconds. If someone requests it there is no reason to not do it other than just decause you dont want to accomodate. It should be "I vote for a new forum". and then a "I second that vote" from a moderator then, Bam!
It would create no burden to the forum over all to add one subforum. As far as I am concerned there should be a general racing forum and then subforums for, Roadrace/hotlap, drag, and drift. Especially considering RX7's and Mazda rotary in general has such a full race car history. **** Peter Farrell climbed Pikes Peak in a FD.

lol, If you wanna call Ari yallon, Steve Kan, Cam Worth,Ken Sheepers,Dee Karagiannis,Ray Lochhead(srmotorsport) young, then by golly I'm a weee youngling.

For all the people in here that are concern about traffic, well I think a couple forums should be moved. The forums are suppose to be about the enthusiasts. Shouldn't care if they wanna build a submergable rx7. It's a 7.

As for the people who are stating that the rx7 was never meant to be used for drag, well so wasn't a civic, but they're there. If you bought it you can do what ever you want with it. It's only fair to bring a drag racing thread to the forum as a main thread, it's reconized and attended just as much if not more than scca racing in america(don't quote me on that ).

This big hassle about a forum that should be one of the main forum threads from day one is rediculous.

Kool Beans,

Keith

Keith

You misread his post Keith. He is speaking about kids who don't know their rotors from their boost controllers. I think we all agree dedicated drag race guys are not considered as butchers.

Here's my vote:

1. Re-organize the race section, as follows:

Motorsports
-Autocross & Roadracing
. . . . (corner-carvers and cone-dodgers go first, because here are more of them)
-Drag . . . . . . . . . (Forum includes two sticky posts: one for Time Slips and one for Dyno Charts)
-Drifting . . . . . . . . . (because "Track" guys generally don't like to hear about losing grip on purpose)

2. Remove the "Time Slips and Dyno Charts" subsections of the 3rd and 2nd Gen forums. They can go in the new "Drag" section.

3. Delete the "Kills" Section, because is can be viewed as promoting illegal activity. Straight-line comparisons can go in the new "Drag" section.

-s-

PS, I also think it's funny that the same guy who wants a drag racing forum is the one calling the drifters too "Fast & Furious"-ish, when TFATF was the biggest movie about drag racing in the 90's.

The American car culture has always predominantly been built around a "win on Sunday, buy on Monday" idea. When people saw Stock cars (back when a Chevy was a Chevy and a Ford was a Ford...REAL cars, not tube-frame specialty race cars) race and win, there was this subtle idea of enhanced reliability/superior performance etc. You WANTED to be driving the same car that Ned Jarrett did, because it won and thus must be "better". Add in the huge drag racing culture portrayed in countless movies of the '50s, '60s, and '70s where it was the guy with the fast car that always got the girl and was considered the "cool, hip dude" and it is easy to see why people will drag race anything with 4 wheels.
However, I have always been perplexed on why people still want to turn cars like the RX-7, a true, pure SPORTS CAR into a drag car? You don't see Ferraris at drag strips. You don't see Lotuses (Lotii?) Nor a Maserati. Nor Lamborghini. Ditto for Jaguar, Aston Martin, BMW....you get the idea. Why? Because these cars are sports cars/sports sedans/grand touring. They are sold to people that want world-class overall performance, where handling and other features are emphasized over stoplight-to-stoplight speed.

You want to drag race? Fine, go get a 'Cuda or a Chevelle and go tear the tires off the damned thing! Those cars were made for that, and NEVER made to EVER see a road course or to have "handling".

Sure, it is "fun" to see how fast you can make a car go thru the 1/4 mile. I love drag racing and attend those events religiously. But I also love watching sports cars in their environment, ROAD COURSES. There should be a separation of sorts, in my opinion.

MY Bad FD3Boosty, too much coffee and bullshit in one thread.

BTW: The rx might not have ever been made for drag, but so ******* what?? You can't single out people because they rather drag their rx instead of road coursing it!! What the hell is up with you people. YOu all sound communist with this whole "it should be for this and not that" bullshit. People here in THIS forum like draging , so I think it should be supported by its own main forum. This thread is becoming very stupid and childish.

Admins you might as well decide soon before an internet fight breaks out.

What is the point im trying to make isint this site for rx7 owners? isnt this the place to be individule and yet find others to injoy it with? thanks!

Did I say drag racing started in 2001? No. I just thought it a bit ironic that Lupe used The Fast and Furious as part of an argument where drifting makes the RX-7 look the F&F part. I have no problem with a drag forum as I stated earlier. But the fact that F&F (the original) was primarily based on illegal street racing, IN A STRAIGHT LINE, is at least a little humorous. I think we all agree that the movies were a waste of time and in all reality, who gives a ****?

Lupe, cheers to you for having a killer drag car. Honestly, I don't prefer drag racing. However, you do and I respect that.

I agree with Lupe...we do need a Drag only section. We RX-7 drag racers need a section where we can post ?'s and get answers and share info about different setups and techniques.

I support a drag racing section. Aside from the serious drag racers, I think there are enough people on this forum who casually go to the track to see what their car can put down to merit another section. Those people are constantly interested in the best ways to launch, if their diff will hold up, and what are good times for their car.
