Who worked hard for their FD?

I first fell in love with the FD a long long time ago when Need For Speed came out for the computer. Anyone remember the yellow FD in that game? It always was my favorite. Anyway I am currently a Jr in high school and am saving for an FD. And before anybody makes any assumptions about me doing something stupid in it please don't bother. I'm not with the group of kids who got int the import scene when Fast and Furious came out.

Anyway on to my point, anyone else here work their *** off over a few years to save for their FD? Did it pay off or do you think you should have bought something else?

I'm already aware of all the heating issues and such however I am not worried as their are 2 rotory specific shops within an hour and a half's drive from here.

i worked my *** off last summer for my FC, and im gonna be working my *** off even more this coming summer for an FD. I hope it's worth it. The fact that i have an N/A FC doesnt let the fact of 80k rebuild for the FD settle too well in me

But i'll look around for a good deal, and have the FD be my weekend car, and the FC my daily beater (well, not "beater" per se, i'll still take gooood care of her)

Hehe, ditto. That and the R&T articles, 'specially the "best handling sports cars" one.

Yeah, like most people here, I worked my *** off. 10 years of school to be precise. Not just for the car, but also for the house with 2-car garage to put it in.

LOL, I used to drive the FD in GT1 on playstation. I didn't know what car it was at the time, but I really liked the handling. It's only a few years later that I found out what it was I was driving. Here's the story.

I remember wanting to buy a car for the first time, but I really didn't want just ANY car. In fact, I swore long ago that my first car would not be a POS. Anyway, there was a supra up the street from me in okay condition, that was parked for months. I wanted to see if the guy still wanted it, and I had planned to save up and buy it from him. Well around this time, I also heard about an "RX-7" that was the supras arch rival in the import world. So I decided to see what this car was that rivaled the supra. At first glance, I really liked the shape of the FD. When I saw the tail lights and door handle location, I flipped, and figured, if it performs just as good as a supra and looks better, why not get one? So the search began. The funny part is, I still knew next to nothing about the car, other than it was fast and looked good. So I'm looking in a magazine one day for parts that I will eventually have to upgrade it with. I'm looking in the upgraded piston section and I keep seeing parts for every other car except the 7. I'm like WTF? (LOL) I see other advertisements for the car on the same page, but no internal engine stuff. I then decided to go online and find out what was up with the car...then it happened...I stumbled upon the rotary. Needless to say, I was amazed. Not only did this car look awesome, and perform awesome, it also had the most unique engine in the world...all at a cheaper price. I was sold, I had to have one. I began the greatest quest for info on the car and engine EVER, and the result is also the reason I found these forums. I saved up for about a year and a half sacrificing just about all my recreation time, and searched for a total of 11months to get the car. I went through some of the most ridiculous crap with schemes, insurance, financing, peoples opinoins, etc. to get the car...but I stayed with it. I finally found a used one that had the stuff in my sig. (except the last which I did this weekend during downtime ) done, but needed cosmetic/turbo work...nothing that wouldn't be fixed in the upgrade process. 19 with my first car being an FD, needless to say, every time I look out the window, I get that "F*ck yeah" look on my face. The FD is just badass...hands down. No offense to the other 7 owners, but the 3rd gen. 7 is just the baddest car on the road today...

I work my *** of to afford my FC I could get an FD, but I want to wait untill I can really afford the car, what I mean is I don't want to have drop every dime I make into keeping the car on the road. Don't forget about the insurence, and high prices on parts.

I remember NFS. I fell in love with RX-7's because my dads friend had a few fc's (na and t2) then one day he came over in a brand new silver FD. I thought it was the coolest car, when we went for a drive, I knew I would have to get one someday. A few years later I bought an RX-7 of my own, it's a FC though. To bad he rolled the FD on the freeway it only had about 16k on it he took it to work in the winter one day to take some girl out to lunch, hit some ice, rolled twice, and that was that.

I fell in love with the FD way back in late 92 when Motor Trend first did an article on it. Then it won the '93 Car of the Year and that just made it that much better. I finished high school, had a few years of college under my belt when I saw a used FD for sale at a dealer for the first time. I sat in it and when I discovered I fit I fell in love again and within a couple months I bought a TurboII. That held me over for a couple years. I sold it and got a Galant VR4 which was not a good substitute. After only a couple more months I had graduated from college and had my first real engineering job. From there it only took me about 3 months before I found my '93 R1. That was just over 2 years ago and I am still working my *** off to keep the car in shape, buy stuff for it, and get that loan paid off.

Great stories, guys... mine's actually quite lame by comparison. I've driven a '90 civic for the last 8-9 yrs, with all sorts of probs with it towards the end (all caused by my constant modding). Then i got a DUI, and was suspended for a whole year. I graduated from college w/o a driver's license, no ceremony, no hoopla. Oh yeah, i DID have 40 hrs of comunity service to look forward to. 1/2 way through that, I managed to land a decent job that would combine with my p/t job to add up to $37-38k/yr. I thought "ok, i can get a car that's ~$30k. My first thought was actually a 90-92 nsx. Those were ~$30-33k w/100k miles at least. So i gave that idea up. I thought about what other car had the out-of-the-box performance at a much more reasonable price. That was the start of the FD obsession. I searched high and low for 9 months, researching everything about the car. EVERYONE told me not to, cuz the car's 8 yrs old, a 2 seater (high insurance), reliability, etc. My main suggestions were a mr-s, 92-96 m3, used wrx, and other crap. Needless to say, all of those disbelievers have had a chance to ride in it. They ALL eat their words now and congratulate me

Do you have any idea how many old, rich women i had to sleep with to pay for this car??!

Does the phrase "time to rub the bunions" mean anything to you?

What is that from, an old e-trade commercial?

On a serious note, I worked hard for mine....4-1/2 years of college and 4 years of work. As a plus, I have a house with a garage to park it in instead of a 3rd story apartment in a bad part of town.....

Oh BTW, I fell in love with the FD the second it was announced and pre-production cars were paraded through the mag tour. I already really liked FC's anyway. Saw my first FD in person in 93 and have lusted for one ever since.

Bought my 93 in early 94 from a doctor who wanted to sell it and get an SUV, when SUV's were new on the market. I luckily had grown up with the bank presidents daughter and took her to the prom, so I had the loan in 10 minutes, 5 of which were talking to him to catch up. Went picked up the car, loved it ever since. Although I got a great deal back then, it was the largest purchase I had made at the time right out of college. So I paid for it for the next 5 years, money well spent.

I've busted my ***** to get my FD as well. Is it worth it? yes.

The only problem is this. Worse case senario, you have spent a lot of time and money and bought an FD. Then you figure insurance. YOU are under 18, so your insurance will seriously be about 2500/year. Then you add in gas..blah blah. Now u are talking $$$. ALso, what if you blow your motor or something doesn't happen according to plan. THis is a very good possibility. Now you have worked your butt off and have no car to drive...

...just think about it, the car is worth it, but you can easily be paying a lot of money for something you didnt' exactly have in mind.

My mommy gave me my FD for my 16th birthday present. She also pays for all my insurance and gave me a couple thousand to put into the car. But I worked hard all my life to make my mommy happy. Does that count?

Wait a minute, I am got my FD when I was 25 and paid that much for insurance. My driving record was less then stellar but I was getting old! Clean record for 1.5 years (only one ticket still shows on my record) and now I pay just over $1900 and I am 27. This is with State Farm. Are AZ and Colorado just high for insurance or do I have other problems? I bet all my payments go toward the damn uninsured illegal residents here in AZ I think next month I am going to get a new windshield courtesy of State Farm, they take all my money and I havent made a claim in 4 or 5 years.

Luckily I got a good job out of college. I have loved the car since they came out when my dad first pointed them out. I remember being amazed when i read the brochure at the dealer that they went so far as to drill holes in the pedals to lighten the car (I was pretty young). Then, last year, my buddy let me borrow his for a week when my car was broken. Needless to say I fell in love with it. I've been looking for one for awhile and finally found one in September. I'm very happy that I got it.
