That is a good argument, I will have good credit too (sister got me a credit card, barely ever use it, <$20 a month).

My plan was, save untill I'm out of highschool, find out where I'm going to college and what my situation will be. By then I plan to have around $10,000. I'll probably take out a $5,000 loan and work from there. Come to think of it, I feel pretty damn proud of myself, I don't know any kids in my school that can save money at all, much less have a credit card and not use it Now if I could just get my GPA a little bit higher

because a good downpayment keeps your monthly payments down?

Depending on credit history (often linked to how long you've been building credit) loans can be hard to get. I didn't wan't to pay absurd amounts of interest, so I worked hard and saved up to buy my FD outright for 9k. F' paying back the bank more than I should have to.

I have been working my *** off to get one. Still not close enough though. I am hoping that maybe my senior year in college I'll have enough to get one. So as of now, I work in the commons kitchen, as a sales person at concerts, soon to be waitering, go to most of my classes (except my 8 o'clocks) am a representative of over 9,000 people, attend 8 meetings a week, and am an active crew member. If only I had the time to be writing this, instead of studying for my last final.

ggrrrrrr.
one day though, I will have the pleasure of finally owning my 7 until then I trudge along dreaming

I have an FD, its fully paid off now, well except the 600 dollar debt i owe to my friend cuz i borrowed from him to pay for the car. and i lost my job so 600 is pretty hard to come up with. 2800/year for insurance doesnt seem that bad, my dad says cuz he wants me to have the full coverage and everything it is going to be around 4500/year and he wants me to pay for it. is it really neccessary to have the full coverage, i mean im probably not going to hit a Bentley or Ferrari. As long as you dont mod your FD, except DP and Exhaust, do you think it would be easier for younger people to pay for all the maintenance and whatnot? i havent had the car long enough to see those numbers, but i think i already have o-ring failure

I've been lucky. No idea how... 3 cars totals no more then 150 every 3 months in insurance. Full cov on the FD. I'm 27 and in the Army. My car payment is only ~300 a month.

I can't say I work hard to keep the FD, but I sure as hell worked hard to get here.

I did all the reliability mods in my driveway after purchasing the car, so I haven't had any breakdowns... We'll see.

At the time I felt in love with the FD I was 15-16 years old (1993-94), so I went to college and worked all my week-ends to get money.

At 21 I started my real job (computer specialist) and bought a Civic because insurance were crazy for an FD so I've waited a few years...

Finally in the summer of 2000, I started looking for my dream car for a decent price and found an Vintage Red Touring Edition FD that had only one owner (a 57year old lady!) with a new paint job so I went to the bank and got my loan

That car burns an hole in my pucket but I will always keep it unless I have no choice (money talks)...

I'm not an FD owner yet. I own an 88' FC TII, and have been looking to get an FD some time in the future. More specifically a rolling chasis, I kinda want to take time building this one. Here's what it's going to take me to get it:

1 1/2 months in Okinawa training.
3 1/2 - 4 months floating on a MEU training some more in the PI and Thailand.
4-5 months in Afghanistan...maybe...maybe longer, may not even happen.

Countless hours of OOD's, SGO's, Turret Watch, and god knows what else Duty dumped into my lap.

I can't wait.

+ infinity...

The FD is the ultimate stress release machine. My wife actually says I am happier after driving it somewhere.

EDIT... oh and this thread was before my time... so why not join the fun?!

Ditto, Iraq tax free money + re-enlistment pay = FD. Then wedding money = New motor and goodies...and yes my wife hates me and my car.

My story:

went to college and aquired a lot of debt while becoming an engineer
started a good paying job, worked my *** off to pay off debt then bought the FD
started modding the FD and aquired more debt!

quit my job to go back to school for a masters and get even more in debt
paid off car loan and now started working my *** off again to pay all the new debt!

still haven't bought a house, LOL

Always remember.... buying an FD is the cheap part.

I highly recommend a daily driver, and a garage..... it should be a prerequisite.

EDIT: Yes, this thread is dirt old.
