Who has a steering column mounted gauge?

I bought a steering column gauge pod in hopes of mounting my boost gauge there, but am having some fitment problems. Anyone out there have this setup? (I've seen only a few pics, so I'm guessing this isn't very popular) Any comments about the piece you bought (along with where you got it)? I'd still like to continue along these lines, but need to find a piece that fits right (otherwise I'm going to have to go with the A-pillar mount).

Thanks

I had an REamemiya column pod and boost gauge. I didn't have any fitment problems. The only bad thing about it is the notches for the turn signal and windshield wiper bars didn't match up with the bottom piece, but that didn't interfere with their operation.

I got the one from the rx7 store and it is way off. It has at least a 1/2in on either side. I havent rigged it to stay on permanent yet, so it is just hanging out on it.

I have pettit's version...the two havles fit very well, but there is really nothing to hold it together tightly..I have a 52mm autometer gauge in there currently..I also have a 46mm white HKS gauge that I am going to try in there just for fun..since I am thinking of putting my old NR white faces back in from my old r1...

I have the Pettit also. It fits well. I noticed it has extra material on the bottom making it sit higher than the stock piece. I can tell that it's just cut from what ever mold it was copied from just a little lower. My guess is that this is done to make it work with a wider variety of gauges because it is a tight fit. Anyway I have it working with an HKS boost gauge. The gauge doesn't fit completely flush and I did have to trim the bulb holder a bit but overall it's great. I also used small black screws to secure the pod to the lower half of the assembly. Anyway I would suggest that if you want more than examples that may or may not be relevant to your situation that you be more specific about your fitment problems and tell us what brands you are trying to get to work together. This is of course unless you just want to know what works and are willing to spend the money to adopt that setup

you can see a few pics of mine at http://photos.yahoo.com/zoomspeedtt in the boost gauge section. You can't see the sides in the pic though.

I got mine from M2. It's a j-spec part so the cutouts for the wipers & turn signals are larger & don't match up. I ended up doing a patch job with plastic & expoy to match the two halves. Autometer boost gauge fit fine & the backlighting looks stock.
I didn't want to add any gauges to the pillar to keep a stock look.
I also have a cyberdyne air/fuel gauge in the switch cover for the cruise control on the dash pod ( I have an R-1 ). You have to trim the circuit board to fit. I added a armrest pad over the ash tray & the two blank light/switch covers on the console. I rest my arm there when I drive I'll post some pictues in the interior mods section of the forum.
The only thing that stands out is my commander next to the stereo.

I sell Pettit's, so if you have one that does not match up well let me know so I can mention that to them.

Got Pettit's. The only problem was assembly. I put a litte super glue on the seam and no problem. The gauge was a little loose, so I dapped a little super glue there as well. No problems since.

Sled driver,
Did you make the ashtray/armrest pad or can they be bought - I have been looking for one.

BTW, I ordered a Pettit pod and an Amemiya one - after looking them both over I went with the Amemiya and an Autometer gauge. I liked the Pettit gauge better - a modified AuotoMeter - it has a nice silicon hose and the bulb, etc is all wired.
I did have to Dremel the Amemiya to fit the gauge, but it fits nice. I did not want to glue it on as the Pettit does. The Pettit is quite a bit cheaper, though. My car is a low milage R1 so I keep it as stock, or able to convert back to stock, as possible.

I want to get one of those ashtray pad things. If you have a source kick down so I can get one! I don't use the ashtray for anything anyway, so might as well have a pad there.
