who has got there waste gates ported.....does that really help the boost creap?? considring doing this but is it easy to do and worth it? also about how much is it to get them ported?

 

i bought my car with a ported wastegate and i've never had boost creep problems...mods below. since it was already done i can't comment on your other questions...sorry...

 

i had mine ported..with dp--mp--cb i would hit 16psi, after i ported it i got a nice flat creep to 10 psi@ 7800in 4th

i ported it myself so it just cost the bettter part of a sat

I believe mine was polished. Not ported. Supposed to allieviate boost creep.

polishing is just making it real smooth/shiny to smooth the air flow..Polising the stock size waste gate WILL NOT allievate boost creep..

the hole the exhaust gases are flowing through is the same size, there for creep will still occour if its gonna..

when you port you remove material allowing more exhaust gases to flow through the larger opening..then if your "polish" the hole u chamfer the edges and smooth out the holes intake and ex ..so this causes less turblance and increases flow slightly..there for reducing creep as much as possible

cast iron cant really be polished, if your doing it yourself with a carbide de-burring bit it will leave it smooth enough..and all edges will be rounded as opposed to if you get the hole drilled larger, then u have to chamfer all the edges

 

Do you need to remove the turbos when you port the WG? How much room is there to work? And since it is twin turbo.. are there two wategates?

You have to take off the turbos and there is only one wastegate.

 

Mine was ported when i got the turbos upgraded. The lowest I've set it to is 8-9 psi, which holds all the way up to red line with my mods:

 

to port my turbos what exactly do i need? i still have new turbos on my car but i still have my old ones arouns to practice on. .......what would i need to port the wastegate and also is there like a template to follow or how big would i have to port it?? any pics of a ported wastegate?

 

to port the wg youll need a carbide de-burring bit..they come in all shapes and sizes...avable from any GOOD hardware store/ machine schop..or a welding supply place will have them...
their abt 30$ a piece for the good ones...whatever u do dont try to use a dremel..youll go crazy trying..i used a air powered die-grinder and it took like 30 min to port it all nice...

there is no template..what u do is close the wg flapper then with a pencil trace arround it...then lift the flapper port to the line..but dont remove the line...you can check it as u go by closing the flapper...
way easy to do

 

I ported mine myself. It actually took me a long long time since i had never taken anything around the turbos off. I was extremely careful with everything I did. Took two weekends. To be fair, the first one was because a bolt froze on me and rounded off (and cracked my socket), so I spent many hours getting that thing off. Eventually just cold-welded a socket to the bolt and used a breaker bar. Worked nicely. Then it was easy to just pull everything apart and grind the hell out of the wastegate. Cost me ~$100 because I bought a grinder from sears. Electric Rotary Die Grinder and two deburring bits. I still get about a pound of creep, but that's nothing compared to the 7lbs i was creeping before!

I did it myself... easy and effective!

I did mine on a CNC machine ... and that is what I would recommend. No problems w/ boost creep -- but I only run 12 lbs of boost.

 

Very possible... Thatsjust showing where the wg is... Due to the massive cracks that set is not being used anymroe!

 

those of you running with a ported wastegate, are you getting any boost creep even with a midpipe?
