Who does 99 spec taillight conversions?

Who does them now? I've read of people who USED to do them... my car is in storage for the winter so now is the perfect time to have them done. Please let me know if you still do them, what you charge. I would like to get some recomendations from people for who does a GOOD conversion as well... I don't care if you do the conversion (I could do it & make it look bad)... I want to know who does the BEST conversions. I've also read that someone took a bunch of taillights to 'convert' & never returned them or the money people paid... so I only want to do business with someone who has done the conversion for a member of this forum in the past. (BTW I also want the center light done).

Thanks

Gee I thought they were direct bolt on replacements....just a few screws and an electrical harness connector that you unplug ?

NOOB mistake ?

^^ Yes, it's a noob mistake. Instead of spending 300+ dollars for the original ones, people convert their stockers. By the way, the original 99 spec ones are painted also.

I'd be happy do to yours for 40$ plus shipping. I've done some sales on the forums but I haven't done a 99 spec for another person though so I don't know if you'd be up for since you listed you want prevous accounts of the conversions.

I do everything extremely well an use all the right tools etc professional heat gun, laminent (not tape so as no seepage) and use very thick adhesive spray as well exact size circle templates not the typical angle mark an rotation that always leads to screw ups.

Pm me if you are intrested. If you know the new york rotary guys they'll vouch I'm a good guy if you want some reassurance. I take pride in my work an I gurantee a great job.

A noob mistake? You are calling me a 'noob' when you have a post count of 9 & a join date of Dec '06?

I didn't ask for someone to remove my 93 spec lights & install 99 spec ones... I asked for someone to CONVERT my 93 spec into 99...

Looks like you should do some reading before pointing the 'noob' finger...

FD3s4e - So long as you've done business on the forum before, I would trust you (I just don't want to get scammed like a bunch of people did recently on 99 spec conversions).

& I will also take your word for your quality of work. Do you think that your work is good enough to sell to others? So long as you are proud of your work & consider it to look "professional", I will trust you.

I assume you did the conversion before, could you please post, or PM me with a pic of the finished product? Do you do the center lights as well (I think some people only convert the side lights)? Price sounds good, once I get a pic, I will send out the lights.

TMadlem84, I was pointing the finger at myself not you.
Sorry about the miscommunication.
As a new member, I wasn't aware someone was modifying 93 lights to a 99 "look". So I'll read some more....
I actually wanted to delete my post but couldn't.

Is the center light the same? Maybe it was just some guy doing a 'custom' center light that I read about then...

You might PM Ryan "rx7even" and ask him what he used when he was doing the lights. My lights from him have never had a moisture problem. He still visits the forum a little each week.

Also interested, but with the same requirements as TMadlem84. I wouldn't mind paying a bit more, but I'd want references.

I use the original glue, never had a problem. You have to heat the glue back up on both the housing and the plastic. Re-tighten the screws and, if you wish, tie zip ties around the lights.

I'm having "seven lust" do mine. There is a thread with some testimonials & pictures of his work... looks top notch & $70 + shipping includes doing the center light.

I did mine myself. It really isnt that difficult and there was a good write up on it not to long ago. All you need to do it is a heat gun, spray paint. and six vinyl circles cut out.

Yeah... I don't have a heat gun... & I'd rather pay the $70 (minus cost of a heat gun) to get a conversion that I know will look good.

I've been told that the difference is so slight, that you really have to look for it. I don't have any pictures of real '99 tails, so I haven't gotten to compare yet.

I don't think confidence is the issue. Could I spend my time, practicing & perfecting the paint job by trial & error... sure...

Is it worth the headaches from trying to get the 'perfect' conversion... to save $70... not to me...

Somethings I do... somethings I don't. I would rather pay someone $70 to do a professional job than to try to learn to do it by myself.

Could I re-paint my entire car? Should. Would it look 'professional'... with enough practice it would. But is it worth the time & headaches... not to me.

What is the original glue? Do you know the brand name, or is it Mazda stuff?

The original stuff that is on the plastic cover and housing when you seperate them. You do not need to add any more glue.
