Where'd you mount your turbo timer?

Seems next to impossible to find a good place to mount this thing ... the best I can think of is next to my right leg under neath the dash. However I want to be able to see it, so I'm a bit stuck here.

Ideas, pictures, experience, thoughts would be apreciated

Also forgot to mention that I have a boost gauge mounted ontop of the steering column already

Right in the garbage!

Unless you're using it for some reason other than its "let the car/turbos cool down" purpose, then it's really not necessary since the FD turbos are water-cooled. Heck water temps in these cars typically go up when the car is running and not moving (eg. traffic). Just take it easy on the car for the last couple of minutes that you're driving before you reach your destination.

If you're dead set on installing it and you've already got something on column already, I'd mount it under the drivers side dash, in a DIN pocket, or between a seat and the center console.

But seriously just sell it and spend the money elsewhere.

Mine is next to the "nut cooler" (vent under the column) just to the left...

for those that say get rid of it .. you are all arogant. first off im planning on a fairly large turbo going in within the next coming weeks.

second off im using it to also keep the fans running so all the components cool off a bit, instead of baking.

I asked a specific question regarding placement ... I didn't ask or request for opinions on the useage of a turbo timer. So stop pushing this thread off topic.

Mine is mounted in the slot for the vent just below the steering wheel. I think this is a pretty common location. Not sure about the demensions of the others, but FWIW, it's an HKS. Removing the vent and section of duct is reversible too. It was put there by the guy I bought it from, but comes in handy occasionally...mostly at autocross events.

I mounted mine on the instrument cluster face just to the left of the steering column (you can see it in the pic). Not the easiest to see, I don't need to either!

Um... Does the OP even have an FD? I'm noticing in their sig that they have a T2, but that's it....

Did you post in the wrong section by accident?

And yeah, if you're a responsible owner then a Turbo Timer does more harm than good.

about 20 people will let you know about where I should be posting in a few minutes .......

lets look at what a turbo timer does:
1. Times laps
2. Watches voltage
3. Cools your car down and allows the fans to run after letting the car sit
4. Watch speed more accurately

Lets see what I do
1. Road Racing
2. Auto Cross

There shouldnt be a prerequisite to posting a question. If you guys feel so strongly about it then post a thread and complain about it there. this thread has NOTHING to do with it.

You're right, there should not be a prerequisite. However you should also be more aware of your audience, and how they feel on certain subjects. The "debate" of turbo timers is one that most FD owners feel strongly about, and it's not exactly hidden away...

By the looks of things you have experience with FC's, but there is no way of knowing the depth of your understanding when it comes to FD's. That being said this *is* the correct thread for the rest of us to post in. You asked for our opinion regarding the placement of your TT display, and you got the full opinion. Getting all defensive and pissed off about the FD community's reaction is kinda silly.

Personally, I won't use a Turbo Timer. I have friends that do. I don't preach at them for it, because they aren't newbs and it's not my car. To each their own...

3. is debatable at best because FDs need good airflow to actually lower underhood temps. The only time my car needs to idle to lower the temps is after a track session, which happens regardless of whether there is a timer to make it automatic.

1, 2, 4 I'm not sure that I care about, and that's assuming the turbo timer does the function automatically.

I guess when it comes to monitoring there are two types of data:
A) data you need while driving and B) data that's useful to look at when you're not busy driving. I have found that direct read gauges and standalone ECUs are the best answer for each. That leaves the turbo timer as a piece of electronics that won't get used and takes up precious space.

^Well, at least this is a useful post.
I know it's not the intended use, but I've actually used mine to warm the car up between runs. They don't often run heats at the local events, and in the spring and fall I'll turn it on for 3 to 4 minutes and let it idle before going back out to work a corner. Or I'll have a friend that's running before me do it. That way if I have to hurry from the farthest corner to get to the grid, I don't have to worry (as much) that the car is up to full operating temp. As for space, that's not really a factor. The previous owner gave me the duct and vent but I just have never taken the time to remove it....besides as I said, I've used it on the rare occasion.
All that said, on these cars time does have little use. But then so do a few other things I see posters talking about putting on their cars....adjustable wings on streeted cars, drilled rotors, umteen redundant gauges etc. I just don't recall this many copy-cat smart-*** remarks regarding them.

I run a turbo timer. I can't believe everyone in here is telling you to sell it or whatnot. Personally I use mine to keep the radiator fans running for 10 minutes after I shut the car off. I turn the car back on but don't start it. Then i shut it back off but the turbo timer keeps the car "on." Then my radiator fans stay on and help blow out all of that hot air for 10 minutes OR until the coolant has dropped below 80 degress C. Look at some of the people's setup in here telling you to sell it and then look at mine. I think I know what I am talking about here...

I think what annoyed him was the "piling-on" to trash it without much if any reasoning why. An opinion is of little use w/o that.

He could have searched one of the other threads on the topic and figured it out for himself.

That's an interesting use.

Do standalone ECUs offer of control over that kind of fan activity?

Isn't that what a fan mod is for?? with the fraction of the cost of a TT. Maybe I am misunderstanding exactly what it's doing.
