I did a quick search didnt really find good lcoations. I know gauges you can get by with the ashtray ... but where is a good source I can tap (only live when the car is on)?

I use the circuit for the radio, personally. It is pretty easy to get to but be forewarned, it is very low amperage. Should be good for gauges and the like, but I wouldn't hook up much more.

i run of the 2nd ignition and make a main power block that is fused. there you can run all your power wires. look for the power wire that has 12 volts on run. if for some reson they go out then it is very simple to find out why.

There is an empty connector in the main cabin fuse box area. You can see it in my water temp gauge writeup at www.davidgeesaman.com

If you perform the fuel pump relay mod (to reduce voltage line drop to the fuel pump) this bypasses the fuel pump fuse in the main fuse box in the driver's side footwell. You can then re-use the fuel pump fuse (tap into the big solid light-blue wire) to feed instrumentation and other accessories in the cabin, giving you a separate fused circuit.

Don't forget to reduce the size of the fuse to better match the load, and make sure the other end of the large blue wire (out by the fuel pump relay) is well capped, since it will still be on this circuit unless you cut it at the main box (instead of tap it).

Circled. Takes a spade connector and is switched power (with ignition key):
