Where to go for new airpump?

Ok I am planning on keeping my airpump on my car because otherwise I can't make it through inspection. I know I am in need of a new one because of the symtomatic mooing. I have gone through my original one and a used one I purchased. I was wondering if there is a cheaper alternative to a new one from mazda at $800 some dolars and a used one that might last a month. Please help me on this as my inspection is up in a month and I want my car back together and inspected before race season.

Woah, man, the "mooing" sound is NORMAL. It does not mean anything is wrong with the air pump, in fact, the opposite!. I hope you aren't going through money and effort just because of that, because if so, you're replacing pumps that still work......

I have had a couple of signs of smog system failure. One is that my idles gotten lumpy and hasn't been pulling the vacuum it should. Another is that I used to get that backfire or slight popping when I let off the throttle and the cat burnt up the fuel. Another sign is the mooing which went away after I replaced it last time. It is a lot of things, but I am buying a Bonez high flow cat in the next week or so just to replace the stock cat for efficiency as well as performance reasons.

While the air pump failing can be a cause of your idle symptoms, so can many other things. And a fully functional air pump will cause a "moo" sound with an open intake like your Apexi.

How can you diagnose an airpump then? How can I test it? I can't find anybody with any way to diagnose problems with the airpump? It is kind of like a rare disease that is found by rulling everything else out. All i know is that the last time things like this were coresponding with one another it was the airpump. I changed it and I was able to pass inspection.

A used one off here should last for a long time...if this last used one really did "go" on you, it was just a case of bad luck. Get another used one. I actually recommend taking it off and getting the pulley kit...then pay some inspection guy to pass your car
