where to get alternator harness boot replacement?

You know, that little gray rubber piece that goes over the positive terminal of the alternator. Mine has a hole worn in it and it is causing corrosion on the alternator terminal. When I asked Ray about this (last year?), I think he told me it was part of the whole alternator harness, which I don't need. I've looked at car audio stores and Napa, but nobody has anything. If anybody has replaced theirs, please tell me what you used. Thanks.

I'd try the local U-PULL-IT lots. Look at any Mazdas, Probes, even small Ford and Mazdas pickups from the 90s. My suspicion is that they're not particularly unique to RX7s. I believe the little plastic "keepers" for the hood prop rods are the same as the 2nd gen. Probes, so while your there, check for an extra too.

I have the same problem and would like to find something to go over it. I wonder if that Liquid Tape would work? It is designed to work much like electrical tape. I wonder if it could take the heat?

This part from WaytekWire works well:
http://order.waytekwire.com/productd...20BOOTS%20RED/

Minimum order quantity is 10, but they are on $0.67 each.

Buy a bunch and share them with your friends.

I just put one on this morning.

Cut the small end off the boot, disconnect the alternator cable, slip it over the connector and reconnect the alternator cable.

The pics show the section to remove, and installed.

I had a stock Honda Crv wiring harness laying around with one of those alternator cable boot on it and I took it and used it on my Fd and it worked great. I think all Hondas should be the same

A boot from the coil/distributor end of a old plug wire, or you can pick up a hand full of the alternator wire boots from a junk yard. Many car will have one that works.

Yeah, good point. I just make sure the circuit breaker is open before working under the hood.

yes, disconnect the battery

My alternator boot was ripped right at the terminal.
I was messing around under the UIM and my throttle cable was loose and inevitably it made contact with the exposed part of the alternator through the boot.

Scared the **** out of me when there was a huge spark and now my throttle cable is partly slag

Yep, always disconnect your battery if you're working under the hood, even if you think you're not going to work anything electrical.

Visit your local marine supply store and check out their electrical aisle. They will have lots of nice goodies, including beefy alternator boots.
