Where Do I Get An Efini Turbo Rebuild Kit

Looking for a good place to get efini turbos rebuild and balanced for a decent price or a rebuild kit for them. Any help would be great. Thanks.

efini = 91-97

'99-spec' = 98-02 (but old version still used).

DaiOni has posted this before, but the 99 specs aren't really any different than the 93-95 turbos. A little faster spool up, and supposedly you can't run as much boost through them than the 93-95 turbos.

If you want to stay with sequential twins and make some real power, look into these:

http://www.bnrturbos.com/3rdGen.htm

then click on the dyno vid link in my sig

I agree with rich. From what i've read, the '99spec are a little more efficient and spool a tad quicker but there is very little difference between them and the older turbos. I'd go with the BNR Stage 3's. Fast spool (sequentially) and huge power potential.

I don't know if the abraidable seal can be replaced - I'd *guess* not. And that underlines a major problem with these turbos - mazda introduces a new part, and it becomes yet another common failure (they're known to blow the seals under sustained WOT use).

UpOnOne929RR, the concensus is that while there are a few shops that rebuild the stock turbos, they don't last very long, and it's quite expensive (about $1,000). For less than that, you can pick up a very low mileage set of stock turbos, or for just a bit more you can pick up a very low mileage of '97 - '02 turbos. I actually have a set for sale in fact.

If you have a slightly larger budget (to the tune of $2,000), then the BNR Stage III's are the way to go.

In short, my advice is do NOT get twins rebuilt. It's not worth the money, esp. in the long run.

take into account all the advice people are giving you.

however, if you decide to rebuild them you can buy a kit for the 93-95 turbos at www.turbocity.com . i don't know if this will work with the 99 twins and i would ask them before attempting.

if you do it yourself, be prepared to ruin parts and waste some money in the learning process... and it will be a learning process. trust me.

I was just reading along since I am planning to get a set of efini turbo's (used low mileage) and decided to call turbocity to see if they would be able to inspect them and get a rebuild estimate. Turns out that Gary (the one I guess who is in charge of rebuilds) doesn't do anything but offer you a rebuild kit. Apparently turbocity doesn't mess with third gen turbo's anymore. WTF!

Yeah i see that you live in Anaheim so they are close to where you live. If you go in to turbo city and talk to those guys I doubt you would want anything from them besides there pre-packaged rebuild kits. At least thats the impression i got when i was there.

Hmmm... they seemed nice on the phone.

Besides, as long as they are honest and reasonably polite, you really can't ask for much more these days. They seemed to be both of those things.

Pretty much...like having new guys take the advice of some of us who've been here much longer, and have told them REPEATEDLY that rebuilding the stockers is NOT a good idea... I mean, what do we know?

Just an FYI, I have had 4 sets of stock turbos rebuilt by Kevin at Majestic. No problems on any of the cars, including my own personal set.

John, yea they're the only guys I've heard that still do a good job on 'em. But a) while it CAN be done, that doesn't necessarily mean it SHOULD be (my personal opinion). And b) it's not very cost-effective. The rebuild runs what...$1000 +/-? You can pick up a very low mileage set of turbos on the forum for half that all day long...

How many miles do these 4 cars have on them, and what boost are they run at?

Just want you to clarify your statement, that's all . I know I personally would never take the time to rebuild stock twins, once mine crapped out I wasn't re-installing them. I'll tell you one thing, I wasn't going to drive all the way out to long island just to smoke your little HT12s

I have been running 19 lbs of boost on my REBUILT little HT-12's for 4 years now. You WERE out on Long Island and both of our cars were in the parking lot...remember. I wanted to run you so we could compare those BnR's you are always pushing on the forum to my stock tiny little turbos. I You made every excuse in the book not to race...LOL It would have been a good comparison because we had similar setups. Oh well- when you get your car running again, let me know and I'll see how I do with my NRS sealed motor(if I don't sell the car first), but before you even talk to me you have to beat Ihor......LOl

How could I race you when my car wasn't tuned? That wouldn't have been too smart . You must have a twin turbo viper in the garage based on the way you talk, johnny......and Ihor is making over 500 to the ground, what do you make trying to run 19 psi through the twins? 390 and enough heat to make Chernobly look chilly

Edit: Just for clarification, don't even try to make it seem like I punked out on racing you . You stuck around for the first few hours of the tuning session, then left. My FD was still sitting there, untuned. Steve was tuning me for free so I had to wait until the end. I never heard back from you after that *shrug*.
