When cold...FD takes a couple min to get started

Ever since we installed a Greddy two row intercooler and RX7store.net fuel system (fuel pump, FPR, and 1600cc inj) it takes a while to start the car. Once the car is warm...it starts right up even an hour later but not much longer than that. Anyone have an idea?

have you checked to see if it is because of the fuel pressure bleeding down? check the gague on the fpr and see what it reads when you are cranking it. if it bleeds to 0 it will take a while to build up 35+ psi

I didn't think it was related but this is the other problem I am having.

https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...hreadid=324152

Basically, my car is leaning out on the dyno from fuel pressure dropping when I hit boost.

As far as describing the cold start symptom, Every time I crank it...it will die...after about the 5th crank...it will start but die shortly...I have to help it by fluttering gas and once it is warm ....it has no problem.

By replacing the fuel pump it solved my problem along with my problem of running too lean on dyno by dropping fuel pressure. Strange how a brand new "competion fuel pump" can be bad. Thanks for your help.

Just an update...once I replaced the fuel pump with the one RX7.com supplied, it fixed the fuel pressure problem. Car still takes for ever to start when cold...I think it's because it no longer has a cold start map...does anyone know a easy way to fix this? I was thinking I could store a cold start map with the data log it software.

Do you have a PFC? Did you check the startup settings?

Ok, since you installed the FMIC, I assume you either went with a smaller battery or relocated it (or both). What battery are you using?

Thats another good question. I used to have one of those mini batteries and when it started to get cold it really didn't want to turn over the car.

I relocated the battery to the rear w/ a optima. I do have a power fc but I have never seen a setting for "start up setting". If there is can you tell me how to get there?

this happened to me today! I flodded mine, it was like 38 degrees and when I started it the low cooland light came on, scared the sit out of me so I turned it off to top the coolant. Big mistake, flodded! I pulled the fuel pump fuse and it started after some tries then put it back in and all was ok.

Mechanic claims to have seen common problems of poor starts with low battery voltage and so slow motor spin rate and plug spark on start.
Long cable runs would drop voltage and could contribute to problem.
Other contributors - corrosion on posts; old battery; small battery cold; etc.

but then. you knew that.

Do they make block heaters for the FD for our northern ice skaters? It seems that could be helpful.

michael that fpr bleeds down when it sits and it will take a bit of cranking to get the press up again overnight. you can try cycling the key on for 2 sec off for like ten a couple of times to see if that shortens the crank time

I have gave up tring to fix this for almost a year now...but thought it might be worth posting again. I tried to cycle the key on/off about 5 times and this does not help. I have looked in the Power Fc for a cold start menu, and cannot find one. Any other idea's of what I can do? I have even tried to have my Tuner (BDC) look at it and we thought we had it. But once the car sits for a couple of hours...it take for ever to start.

5 Minutes? Must be in Mike B time...maybe a minute and quit pressing on the gas pedal when your starting it...

I wish my thread subcribtions would email me! (hint moderators...please fix) I would have responded to this much quicker. It does take 5 minutes to start (not touching the gas pedal at all) We can time it if you want....but even a minute is way too long and embarrassing. It looks like I own some POS that wont start. I can't believe noone else has had this problem. Does anyone know exactly how to get to the Power FC's cold start setting?
