Change the plugs and add coolant. I don't think the problems are related. IMO

Check the fuel filter and the plugs and wires also you might want to try reseting the ecu.

Check the oil for coolant, change the plugs, and check the wires, and hopefully it will rule out those problems. It sounds electical to me. Listen to PureMdMa and reset the ecu. My last car, a Grand Am, did the same thing. It had a slight leak in the head gasket which leaked coolant into the combustion chamber. This only cause some problems at ideal and on start up. Once the head gasket went, it only lasted half a day. That's when I bought my 7.

Check to see if the hose running from the MAP sensor to the throttle body is still attached at both ends. It typically blows off the MAP sensor end. The MAP sensor is little box supported off the firewall by the intake elbow and master cylinder. If the hose is disconnected, reconnect and reset the ecu. To reset ecu: unplug neg batt cable, hold brakes for 30 seconds, reconnect batt cable and start. Hopefully this solves your shaky, hesitating problem.

Coolant light: not to be a total smart ***, but did you check your coolant level? It doesn't say so in your post.

How does pressing the brake while the battery is disconnected effect resetting the ECU?

That's just the procedure Mazda uses to reset the ecu. It's just Ctr-Alt-Del on a computer.
