What's the problem...Efini Y-Pipe with M2 Intercooler

What do you have to do to install a Efini Y-pipe with the M2 Medium IC? I got the M2 and I'm tired of that stupid stock Y-pipe blowing apart all the time.

Thanks
Hoody

If the stock y-pipe fits with your M2 intercooler, the efini pipe will fit perfectly. It is an exact fitting replacement.

Installation isn't difficult. You will have to remove the air pump if you have one. You will also have to unbolt the rear turbo inlet from under the car. Not a difficult install. Sometimes finding the efini pipe is much more difficult.

Actually the two don't fit together. The M2 IC pipe inlet is made similar to the old y-pipe fitting, meaning you need a hose and 2 clamps. Where as the efini y -pipe has the pipes joined by 2 bolts since there's a flange on both end. so the M2 IC pipe won't fit with the bottom of the efini pipe. What I had to do, or as atleast what I choose to do was to cut the top of the y-pipe, right underneath the flange lip with my dremel cutoff wheel. once the flange is cutoff, just use your old hose and 2 clamps again. I've had mine like that for about 1.5 years with no problems.

Tim, I don't understand your explanation at all. The efini pipe replaces the stock y, and crossover tube. The efini crossover tube connects exactly where the stock crossover tube would connect. I don't have a M2 intercooler, so I don't know how it is different. I can't see how an efini pipe won't work when a stock y-pipe will.

Adam,

The piping for the M2 intercoolers REPLACES the stock plastic crossover tube. It connects to the stock y-pipe using a coupler and clamps, just like the stock crossover tube.

The efini y-pipe no longer uses a coupler to attach to the crossover tube. It now bolts to the crossover tube with a flanged opening. Therefore, you can't connect the M2 piping to the efini y-pipe using a coupler anymore.

If you look at the top flange of the stock y and the efini y you'll see that the efini y is actually higher than the stock. Remember there was all that dead space that was just the coupling between the bottom of the x-over and the top of the stock y. That being the case, M2 should make a version of the pipe that's a little shorter where it connects to the y and throw on a flange and some bolt holes.

Talk to Kevin Wynum that is here on the forum. He's making the M2 SMIC's again and he would probably be more than willing to accomidate a need like that. I can't remember the company name he uses to save my life though. Sorry for the half helpful info. Laterz.

Rynberg,

Thanks for the explanation. I thought he was using the stock y-pipe and stock crossover tube.

Garfinkle has the Efini y pipe and the innercooler from Kevin Wynum . Gar made the crossover pipe from a 90 degree bend tube from Burnes stainless , and a hand made flange welded on to bolt to the Efini flange . The air pump is gone .
