whats a better ecu

i was thinking of getting the greddy e-manage with all the harnesses, and the greddy profec e-01(boost controller)or the apexi power fc with commander.... cause i can get both e-manage with harnesses and profec e-01 for like a grand... and the apexi power fc is a lil more expensive.... but i dont know witch to go with???

If you simply look at the number of folks using a PFC on their FD vs. the GReddy thing, the answer will be obvious...go with the PFC. I actually don't know anyone using the GReddy thing. Unless you like being a guinea pig...

Definitely go with a Power FC. Once you mod it's well worth it. I know first hand

I had a remapped ECU for a while, but I couldn't beleive the difference the Power FC and a wideband session did for my car. Definitely worth the money.

who's going to tune your car? that's the real question. you can have the best ec in the world but it's useless if it's not tuned properly.

Definitely a very good point. Dave at KDR got me 27whp by tuning my PFC.

KDR built my large street port motor and installed my Power FC base maps. Ran the base map for a year. Recently dyno-tuned @ Rx7 Store of Columbus OH. Very conservative tune netted 21 hp gain by leaning out air-fuel-ratio from 10s to 11s. Mods are large streetport, GReddy FMIC/Airinx intake, 1300-cc secondaries, Denso Comp fuel pump, J-spec twins, dp/mp/RB dual tip cb, air pump removed, underdrive main pulley, 8.5 lb flywheel. Rx7 Store has a new Mustang Dyno. Jason and Zavier tuned with boost control set to 1.05 kg/cm^2 (15 psi)...turbos spiked to 1.15 kg/cm^2 (16.4 psi).

can you program the ecu (power fc) your self? i dont have any tuners localy (300 miles) around and i would only like to have it tuned once when the car is finished.

You can, but it's harder to do with the just the commander keypad. It's better to have the FC Datalogit software. This software shows the entire 20 x 20 MS Excel grid values and you can see which map cell the ECU is reading off of in real time, and adjust those cells incrementally. It's best to have the car tuned by a shop familiar with tuning FDs equipped with Power FCs. This shop will have FC Datalogit software, good wideband lambda sensor, and chassis dyno. Dyno-tuning your Power FC to suit your FD's mods won't be cheap, but will be worth the money. Rx7 Store "starts" at $275/tuning session.
