Any FD's Scared of the Lotus coming to the US?

Well um ya that thing is scary.
My friend just sent in his order for his Lotus.
1/4 Mile in 12 seconds?!

All I have to say is ouch!
I will have to do ALOT of mods to keep up with him.

The two seater running the toyota engine?

Short answer:

NO

Looks like they will be imported in such a limited number that you may be lucky enough to see one on the road.

I personally don't care much for the looks of those new Lotus. What's the going price on them going to be in the US?

I like the looks, and i'd like the performance... but if you thought your FD was a pain in the ***, buy a Lotus.

Also, by the time you pay the almost certain 5-10k dealer scalping price, you could buy a Z06, M3, or other cars...

Given all the mods i've done, i don't think i'm scared yet...

Scared? I'd love to see an Elise in the US, or whatever it is they're calling it when they bring it here. I love those things, I'd be happy to have my *** handed to me by an Elise

Thats cus it's a go-cart with a body. Has anyone read Car & Drivers ultimate handling test? They brought in the Elise just to see how everything else stacked up. The field of Z06's, Ferraris, Porsches, etc. couldn't hold a candle to the Elise.

i dont think the elise can run a 12 second 1/4 mile, i know that it is light but it only has like 140 horse power. Could you be talking about a different lotus, becuase i havent heard anything of any other lotus coming to town.

$33,000 and up. Not to many options since it is a real race car.

It has a 200 hp motor, not 140. I double checked it. My friend ordered one in black. Your right about the go kart with a body. Thats all it is. I wonder what the insurance will be on that !!!

The new Elise has 190 hp and will cost about $39,000. It will be the purest sports car sold in the US. Also, it will do about 13 second 1/4 miles, Lotus already fessed up to that typo....

There is already a thread in the lounge.....

And if you do the math ... the numbers are more like mid-13's AT BEST. Still, straightline stuff is not what the Elise is about. Seen one up close. Interesting car for the price ... just not the most practical vehicle in the world. (And you thought the FD trunkspace was small ...)

I have raced an Elise. I posted the results in the kills section. It is a fast car, but not fast enough.

i thought it was mid to high 13s, 190 horse still is pretty weak though. they need to add a turbo option, hehe. Its all about boost!

Nothing we'd have to worry about on a daily basis though.

As for the speed potential, no, the FD is still quite the capable car in that department.

yes, it gets the 190 HP Celica GTS motor and 6 speed tranny. Lotus has been claiming that the Elise will be coming for several years now but I think this time they're finally going to get it. I doubt it'll stay under 2000lbs. with all the emissions and safety crap that they have to put on for the US. I'm not too thrilled about the latest body style either, I like the previous generation a lot more. But remember, it's not much of a practical car, even when compared to the FD. It's very stripped down, it doesn't have a hardtop, and even the windows are hand cranks. There's a guy locally that brings his track version out to the local autoX events all the time. Nice car, but I'd hate to have to live with it as my only transportation.

I was waiting for this one

You see, if any car is faster than an FD then:The FD is one of the best handling cars on the road! If any car handles better than the FD then: The FD is one of the fastest cars on the road! If any car is faster AND handles better then: The FD doesn't cost near as much! If any car is faster AND handles better AND is cheaper then: Your car is not rotary powered, and rotaries are better! If any car is faster AND handles better AND is cheaper AND is rotary powered then: I had boost troubles! If any car is faster AND handles better AND is cheaper AND is..........it just continues on forever

Too many excuses.

Sure the Elise is more of a compromise as far as everyday driving, but if anyone thinks it's not going to hand an FD its *** on most any course they are fooling themselves.
