Looking at doing mods to my other girlfriend (s7 rx7 )

Have been told by alot of different people what is best ECU to purchase for my car but everyone has different thoughts..... what does everyone here think?

Link G4, Power FC, Microtech... etc

Whats your thoughts?

 

apexi power fc is gonna be my first choice once i come up with the money! =]

Even tho its dated, It is still the most effective ECU out there.

Cost effective, large community to tap into for help, guidance and resources; can handle just about anything you need in your car.

The only thing above the PFC are the other, current, more advanced ECUs like the Haltech Platinum Sport 1000/2000 which is growing in popularity.
Then theres Microtech and MoTec with their line of ECUs..... which are pricey.


You can get JUST the Power FC for about $600-800, and the new Commander with the EL screen is an additional $300. And the datalog it is an additional $200-300 which allows the end-user to be able to tune and monitor engine parameters in real-time and datalog(hence the name)


Aside from Haltech's PS1000/2000 ECU's, i dont see any other ECU that works as well as the PFC in a street application.

As above, PowerFC is a pretty safe choice. For a bit more cash, you could get a Link plug-in unit, which will be far better than a powerFC, but the turbos must be non-sequential.
Tuners in NZ are also generally quite familiar with the Link units as they are a NZ made product.

Price-wise the Link and Microtech are pretty similar to a PFC if you start factoring in the datalogit (if you choose to get one).

As you're probably not wanting to do any custom-wiring harness, it really comes down to either the PowerFC or the Link plug-in unit.

 

Also as a cheaper alternative to the datalogit you can look up the fchako cable. The datalogit is almost double the price to buy new.

 

The best ECU will be the one your tuner is most familiar with.

 

Whatever ECU your tuner is familiar and proficient with.

The stock base map is good for driving the FD with a smoother intake and catback without requiring paying for a tune.

If you just have a couple mods, you can just plug it in and enjoy the noticeable difference in drivability.

[ A while back when I first got the Power FC, for about a year I drove my stock FD on California 91 gas, with the stock radiator, crappy Apexi *hot* air intake, downpipe, and GReddy Evo 2 3.5" internal diameter catback with no problems, even throughout summer. Notice that was with 3 mods. Of course my PFC's tuned NOW. ]

 

So are you saying its as simple as plugging in and drive away?

 

Depending on which one you get, and what mods you have, yes.

The Base Mod Map on the later PFC was good for your basic bolt-ons. I would still get it mapped though, as not every car is the same.
