what wire to hook up shift light

i know that its the green wire comming off the shift light but what wire does that tap in to to get the rpm signal it needs

^ that way he did it seems kinda ghetto. Im a firm beliver in do it RIGHT the first time.. the way he did it will work.. but in my opinion its not a "Clean" install.
