What trim is this car

I’ve had my rx for years it’s a 93 and always thought it was a touring trim still pretty positive however now that I’ve been tearin into it once again I’ve noticed it has dual oem oil coolers. Previous owner never added an additional oil cooler and I am the second owner. Any thoughts? Did the R1 come with leather and a sun roof also? Or did the touring have an option for dual oil coolers? Not a big deal just curious. Any additional ways to tell trim?

Regarding the trim level, the R1 did not come with leather and a sun roof. IIRC in 1993 there were 3 trim levels; Base, Touring, and R1. From the sound of it, your car is a Touring model (neither of the other 2 came with a sun roof or leather) and somewhere along the lines someone either added another oil cooler or as you eluded to, it was a dealer option someone added. Is it LHD or RHD?

Maybe the VIN will help. It's possible someone had a base or touring and added OEM dual oil coolers themselves? If it has a sunroof, we can assume it's not an R1 at the very least. If it has the bose sound system in the back, I think that's a good indication of it being a touring.

Is it now or was once an automatic? The auto trans cars have the second cooler but it's a trans cooler.

If it has a sunroof it's definitely not an R1.

And if it has factory cruise control, it is also not an R1.

It’s definitely a touring trim. Has cruise, sunroof, leather, had a Bose system. Guess Mazda may have had an option for an additional oil cooler or something. Only reason I asked was that I was looking at some more upgrades and being that i have dual oil coolers don’t see much of a need to upgrade those now.

Most likely it's either an auto car that was converted or a manual touring that had a previous owner add a second oil cooler to.

It's a lot easier to add a second oil cooler to a touring than to add a sunroof to an R package.

Use the link above to see what Mazda says about the car.
