If the car wasn't meant to rev past 4500 the tach would stop there. Last time I looked mine went a bit higher. Now, there's no reason to keep the car in gear above 6000 for extended periods of time. Just drive it like you would any other manual. Accelerate toward redline a shift.

Yeah man, you're torturing the poor car to shift at 4500 each time. My typical cruising RPM is about 4000. I usually shift at 6000 or so if I'm not in a hurry. Then again, I do have a ported engine and a single turbo.. so it helps to keep it up there!

But seriously, shift where you feel like... going over 4500 will not hurt the car at all...

Seriously, rotaries LIVE for the redline. Get it up to 7000 a couple times a week at least.

Why is that even a problem if you have a full 3" turbo back exhaust?

Do not baby the car like that, you will be actually hurting the engine. You should take it to 6000RPM+ and then quickly shift into the next gear, but don't drive like this all the time. You will end up building too much carbon if you never really get on the gas. Having too much carbon will hurt the engine and could cause engine failure. Whenever I drive my car I drive it extremely hard and I have never experienced any problems. I've owned my RX-7 for 5 years and it still runs extremely strong. Make sure to do all the maintenance on your car and you will be fine.

on SECOND thought.

GET AN ECU! NOW!

Do you have a boost gauge? You are probably creeping with a downpipe and midpipe. At least you have the stock catback.

I second that, GET AN ECU!! Shipping at 4500rpm? Geez man you're missing all the fun when the second turbo comes online.
