I would say "operator error", the search works great with the forum update: https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...t=radiator+cap

Not to mention the "big fat cooling thread" link in the FAQ thread.

1. I read through the coolant threads that was linked here but I did not figure out if I can use a spring cap on the top of the waterpump. I bought a new AST which includes a new cap, but I also bought a new Greddy spring cap which I would like to use on the waterpump.

2. My other question is if the AST should be aligned with the top of the waterhouse cap. I've installed an FMIC and bought a new AST, so I would like to relocate it to where the air pump was located. What height level should the AST be installed at?

I've seen people with the caps switched (not on purpose) and didn't seem to have any issues. However, I would still recommend running the caps where they belong.

For the AST to be most effective, it should be at the highest point it can be (and still have the hood close).

I've been using the greddy 1.3 bar cap for a while now with no problems, but then again I am in Alaska and my water temps never go over 92c...lol...

Got my PFC to turm my fans on at 90c.

ya the filler just uses the cap (no pressure), if you put a pressure cap there it will do nothing.

If the AST is too low you run the risk of when the cap opens blowing coolant instead of air. I'm working on that right now with mine it wasn't high enough.

So the Greddy radiator (spring) cap I have bought is useless? The only use for it is for people that are still running original AST? Can I modify the spring cap and remove the spring? If not, I can just buy any standard 1.3 bar cap to replace the old I had?

Thanks for the other notes on AST, I will try and connected it tomorrow. The engine was lowered into the bay today and connected with the transmission. Took me and my father ~4 hours to get it down, phew.
