What oil do you use?

What weight oil do you guys use? I'm bone stock right now and don't have the owner's manual... which oil weight should I use? I live on a tropical island which gets very hot and never dips below 60 in winter. Also, my car smokes a little bit when its cold. when it warms up the smoke goes away except under hard up-hill acceleration where it will blow a quick cloud of grey smoke when downshifting. Will it hurt if I add some stop-smoke oil additive?

You want to keep the oil light enough to flow well to the turbos when you first start out. I suggest 10W30. It's what I run, but it's much colder here too. Highest temps we ever see are mid to high 30s. Don't drive the car when it's in the -10s and below (and it goes down to -50 occationally). Brrrrr.

What about the stop smoke stuff thats supposed to revitalize the seals, etc? Will this stuff hose the turbos or engine? I heard that somehow oil is injected into the combustion chamber so I don't wanna kill the engine by putting additive in it. Not that doing this would kill the engine but I mean over time it could build up deposits. Any ideas?

I say stay away from the stop oil ****

And the temperatures you describe sound just like florida near the water where I live
Use 20w50 like I do

One other piece of advise. Change the oil very very very often. It can't hurt and it's so damn cheap so why not. The longest I've gone before changing my oil is 1,900 miles. I normally change it at 1,500 and use the filter 2 times for a total of 3000 miles on it. I love clean oil the engine is like mmmmm thanks!!

I use regular Mobile mineral oil.. I'm still debating if I should switch to syn... the thought of having a cleaner.. smoother running engine sounds appealing (among many other benefits of syn) I change my oil/filter every 500 miles, excessive and possibly pointless .

I have no problem w/ changing the oil often. Just to give you an idea, the island I live on is 20x30 miles so I don't do a hell of a lot of driving. I'll change my oil every 3 months or 2000 miles, whichever comes first (I drive about 500 miles a month, and my Rex is my daily driver).

20x30 island, sounds like you get around the island pretty fast. In Texas I use 20/50 Valvoline Vr-1. It's a dino oil. I change it often. I might use a 10/30 in the cold of winter. Jan/Feb.
Most of the Rotary performance shops recomend the 20/50 grade oil.

Actually, the roads wind everywhere so it takes 10 miles to go 5. They don't sell anything less than 20W here. I've never heard of 25W but they have it here. Kinda makes me wonder which SAE standards they are using for viscosity. I'd go with syn but a. I don't know if I can find a constant supply of it here and b. if I did it would most likely be expensive as hell (as opposed to just expensive).
