It all depends on how it's blown.

A mid-mileage core that has a burned-thru coolant seal is probably most valuable. One that overheated and killed the coolant seal will have some warped parts and is worth less. One that blew an apex seal is worth least since one should assume expensive stuff like a rotor and housings are shot.

It has a blown apex seal with 26k on it.

Is it worth more to keep as a paper weight or make the rotors hood ornaments.

I have no idea as to the condition to the rotors or housing at this point, and I didn't get a discount for having a core so I sure hope they don't think I'm just going to let them have it for nothing, but I haven't asked yet.

Assuming the rotors and housing is shot, what's it worth?

About $1000 which is the core charge on a reman.

Depending on what is useable, you may be about to part it out for a little more.

Oh, for fun, say rotors are good, housing is good, just apex seals....then how much.

Basically, its worth $1000 *if* you want to get a reman. Private sale for someone looking for an engine, you'll be lucky to get $500 for it together. If you piece it out, over time you could probably pickup some money for "good" parts (i.e. $250-300 per rotor, $250-300 per rotor housing, $200-250 per side housing, $50-100 for e-shaft).

However, when piecing it out, it all depends on the condition of the parts.

How did it go out? I mean were you on it, or just cruising?

Well.....lets just say I was "stretching her legs" a little. But seriously, 140mph was the fastest burst I had that day or ever actually, and prior to this up to the day I bought it 2 months ago, I had only run it to 100mph ONE TIME!!! The rest was pretty casual cruising with an occasional 2nd and 3rd gear hits up to 80-90, but again, very seldom. I had only taken off from a dig 3 or maybe 4 ****** times. But. the previous owner had 25k on the reman so I have no idea how it was driven before I had it. No biggy though, I don't blame the previous owner, just one of those things that happens that someone has to deal with, and that someone just happened to be me, so I'll deal with it and move on with a new motor.

But I didn't even know anything was wrong until I hit a stoplight coming back into town....I was in the pudunk of Eastern Oregon, and after I had that quick run up to 140, I cruised for 30 minutes from the desert back into town without boosting it once so everything could cool off before I put it in the garage. Pulled up to the first light in town on a red, put the clutch in and come to a stop, and the idle was nasty. Got home, smoking way more than it had before, big time gas smell from engine bay and exhaust. Took it down to the shop later that night to looks things over, same deal, helicopter like sound from the exhaust, no low end torque at all, smoke, gas smell.......it was a nightmare. Went back home, put it on the trailer, and took it to the mechanic a couple days later.

I was contacted by Mr rx-7 tt and he has a setup I am interested in with doing a few mods to a reman to make sure it's in spec and a couple other mods, so we'll see where that turns up.

I knew I should of bought that tricked out Probe when I saw it. Damn.

I only have to tint roughly 35 cars to pay for the work and motor, so that will be fun.

It's odd that you bought a rebuild and dont have a core charge or requirement. You sure about that? I mean, does this particular builder just pull rotary engine core parts out of his *** to build from or something? Either you paid enough to have a core built from all new parts (4-6 grand) or you got a rebuild with some used part content, and those used parts have to come from somewhere.

A blown apex motor will have one bad rotor and rotorhousing, everything else should be okay. So it will produce 3 irons, one rotor, one housing, one shaft, and the other litle misc. stuff that is pretty worthless.

Irons usually sell for $100-150 each or $200-250/set of 3 depending on condition...remember these are heavy and cost a lot to ship.

Rotors usually sell for $150-200.

Rotorhousings usually sell for $150-300 used depending on condition which varies widely...with 26k I'd expect yours to be a solid $200-250 housing.

These prices are usually what individuals buy one part at a time for. They are not what I would pay, but what I would sell for. IF you sell the core block as is, expect 3-400 for it, maybe 500 if you find someone needing a core (to turn in for a rebuild).
