what model is this?

hey guys, i tried searching and going to a dealership to find out but for the sake of clarity i was wondering if you guys could identify the model once and for all.

its a 1995 silver exterior, black leather interior, bose sound system, spolier, rear wiper and glass sunroof. the VIN number is JM1FD3331S0400027.

its my understanding that this would be a touring model but the dealership claims that its a PEP model (one of 34, thus rare).

also, i was wondering which would actually cost more, i know the touring has more options, but the pep is supposidly rare, so should i bother to bring this up at the haggle?

ha, I own one of those 34...

mine does not have rear wiper, glass sunroof, or BOSE.

rear wiper kills the car...not sure I'd buy it

If it has Bose, it's a Touring - that's the dead giveaway. You can also enter the VIN in the customer area of Mazda USA's website, and they will show a bunch of info on that car.

I think he was joking. Condition, chassis miles and price are all that really matter - the PEP/Touring thing is marginal at best. Silver 1995 are not all that common to begin with.

alright, thanks for the help guys. with this new fact that its just a touring instead of a rare pep that should decrease its cost, shouldnt it?

No - there are only about 50 people in the world that care about the relative rarity of 1995 PEP and Touring RX-7s and I doubt any of them are Canadian car dealers.

that fact that its a 1995 RX-7 increases the cost...whether the dealer says due to the PEP or Touring means he's mistaken, maybe you can squeeze a grand out of him.

I'm serious...tell him you wish it didn't have the rear wiper, and heavy BOSE system.

pep or touring you can make it look as sexy as you want

i know that should increase it more then the average 7, but thay originally wanted $30k for it. i told them i would pay $20k +my rx7 (reasonably a $6k car at least) in exchage. they said the lowest they could go was $26k + my car so i left. now they want $26k for the car but they apparently dont know alot about the car (i covered this in an old post which i will probably bump later tonight). its a nice car but im not willing to pay more then its worth.

only worth what you'd pay...blue book is ~$18k US (iirc)

I've turned down offers higher than what they are asking...$25k and you keep your car, sounds reasonable.

yea, my big problem is i dont have the room for both, so a trade in is benefical in that aspect. you saw my original offer but with all that im reading about the value im thinking about $18k cdn + my car should be a fair offer.

Heres the info about the car, for those interested:

95 silver on black touring
about 67000 km's on it
tinted windows (which are slightly scratched and will have to be replaced eventually)
really good interior (except the chain to lift the trunk cover is missing and the bose system is scuffed up)
really good exterior, repainted bumber (but theres a small line of rust of the spoiler)
new tires, potenza's (although i've heard some bad things weather wise about those tires)
new clutch, new brakes and new rotors (not the engine kind lol)

i took it for a test drive, ran good and the boost was good (a couple other club members have test drove it too) however i noticed that the idle wavered and almost stalled once when i put it in gear. also after the drive i noticed a bubbling sound coming from around the turbos in the engine bay (which i apparently is just air bubbles in the coolant)

yikes air bubbles in the coolant or boiling coolant in the overflow tank??? which would be due to a failed coolant seal...which requires a rebuild.

maybe pressure test the coolant system.

i plan of telling them i want a warranty on it just in case theres something i missed and the engine goes after a week.

i plan on showing the dealership this page when i go to see it, honestly, with the info i gave about the car, what would you guys think the value of this car is?

sidenote: they originally had the car on ebay and the highest bid only went up to $16k.

They did not have the Touring package in 95. It is a PEP model with the optional Bose system and rear wiper. Mazda also only had glass moonroofs in 94, so a previous owner has swapped the original metal sunroof out. The spoiler could have been a dealer add-on or added by a previous owner.

is there anything else you would be able to tell me about the 95's? i'm hoping to learn as much as i can about this car walking in to the discussions, especially since i've already caught them with mistakes in the past.

and for the mazdausa thing. thanks for the link guys but unless i misread the site, i think you have to sign up access anything, and i dont have a zip code, i couldnt sign up.

i tried stopping by a mazda dealership close to my house, but not only did their computer not have any information about this car, but the guy behind the desk who was apparently with mazda for 30 years has never heard of these model types (base, touring, R1,R2) and that they only come in something like GT, GX, and something else. pretty much a dead end.
