I've heard the "book time" is 12 for an FC, 13-14 for an FD. Mazda dealers I've seen seem to bill for 18-20. You should just do it yourself! You can get a cherry picker for much less than that, not sure what my brother paid but it was pretty cheap.

Book time states about 12-14 hours for MT and 14-16 for AT. I removed my engine from an A/T and labeled, pictured, bagged bolts, etc, etc and I think it took me about 10-12 hours total over several days to just remove. (taking my time 2-3 hours at a time).

Mine went like clock work though.

This is not numbers directly out of the book, but I remember my friend looking it up when I was removing it. The variation would be if there was any difficulty with the studs removal and if you had to add labor to remove broken or stripped studs or other additional problems that usually crop up that are not specifically listed. If I recall, It was 12 hours for MT and 14 hours for AT.

I know that a dealer locally quoted $900 labor to install based on their books. I think their labor rate at the time was around $59/hour. This was two years ago when I checked last.
