If the jack doesn't quite make it under, just grab ahold of the sheetmetal in the wheel well and pull. You can create an extra 2 or 3 inches of clearance that way.

for me, it's not a matter of it not being low enough, it's that it's not long enough. The entire jack needs to fit under the car. I have to use a smaller, cheaper jack to use one of the side jackpoints, then I can fit the big floor jack underneth. But if you want a jack that will do it without any extra hassle, it's going to cost a lot of money ($600+)

I have the bigger (still only 2 1/2 ton I think) size of floorjack from Autozone. What is the brand, MVP or something like that? It was about $50. Fits perfectly under the car and I am able to use my large jackstands with it. I would recommend getting the smaller sized stands though. For me to get a jackstand up front I have to lift the car so high that the rear wheel on the same side comes off the ground a couple inches.

I drive my car up on ramps first, then jack it up the rest of the way with my Sears 3 ton. After that, I place jack stands at the jack points listed in the shop manual.

I cut 4 2x4 blocks 8 inches wide(depending on tire size of course). I use 2 to chalk the back tires and use the other 2 to drive the front wheels on top. Then Iam able to get the regular hydro jack under neath it and its a piece of cake from then on.
