What in God's name is wrong with my car?!?!?!

Ok, this is probably the most odd thing i've ever heard of with any car. I have a 5spd tranny and when i'm in 4th/5th gear and i punch it my revs skyrocket and i'm producing normal speed gains or low, to no, speed gains. It's almost like a passing gear in an auto but it doesnt speed up with the high revs, it just revs. it will go from 2500 rpms to 5500 rpms in like 2 seconds..... anyone have any idea what in the world is wrong with my car?

Your clutch is gone it sounds like to me.Does it do it in any other gear? From a dead start?
Does it make any bad sounds like grinding or jumping out of gear?

Possibly due to a rear main oil seal leaking on it, or just abuse/use/age.
That's my guess from your description.

1st gear is too short to notice if it does it, i'll try it in 2nd and 3rd tomorrow and see.... no grinding, stays in gear, etc. if it's out then that means time for a new ACT clutch and flywheel

yeah its all the clutch....do another test...after driving around, before you turn off the car, step on the brakes and put the car in any gear, than slowly release the clutch with your other foot still on the brakes...if the clutch is really bad the car will not stall. but sounds to me that your clutch is slipping, no other explanation..

yep it does. And also while you are in that far, replace the rear main oil seal. It is only around 10 bucks retail and is at least that old if original. Also, Check the condition of your freeze plugs in the rear iron housing. ( They are behind the flywheel.)
I have had an issue with a couple of T2's lately that one of the plugs was corroded thru and leaking onto the clutch.

You would also be haveing a coolant level problem if that was happening to you. Just a preventative tip to check since it takes some time to get in that far. And the plugs are like 2 bucks at NAPA. (30mm plug FYI)

Sorry not trying to confuse or scare you. You just don't want to go back in there soon after. An Oz. of prevention is worth a pound of cure!

The higher the gear, the more load you put on the clutch. Clutches will start slipping in 5th, then work their way down to lower and lower gears.

If the clutch is getting worn, many times the engagement point of the clutch will be VERY high up on the clutch pedal travel - that's another sure sign.

Or, if you've modified your car and have a stock clutch, you may be making more power than the tired stock clutch can handle.

Anyhow, start savin'. I'd take it easy on the car until you get the new clutch in. Once clutches start to go, they can go pretty fast. I put a clutch in one 3rd gen that was SO shot I could barely drive the car up on ramps to work on it!

Yep it's the clutch dude. Good luck replacing it. To make it easier get a good transmission jack and pull out and replace the old pilot bearing. You'll need a pilot bearing remover to do this. I rented one from Autozone, but it didn't fit for sh*t. I bought one at another auto parts that required some shaving to fit.

BTW: When your revs rise in gear do you smell your clutch burning? You should be.

Not trying to be "that guy" who's answer is always "you're engine's blown, dude",
but could this also be caused by a bad o-ring?
(Only reason I ask is I think my brand-new clutch is doing the same thing. I did a 3rd gear pull (70mph-100mph) and it felt much faster before. 1st thing I always think when something is wrong is "oh no, my engines blown")
