What gauges are needed? Trying to work with 2 spa duals
My first post here so be gentle
First a little background on my car - '94 Touring w/ RB Catback and boost gauge
I'm going to start modifying my car soon here (starting off with a downpipe and fluidyne radiator and moving on from there) and want to make sure I have appropriate info on my car so that I don't blow my engine.
After reading Max Cooper's how-to on the SPA Dual gauge install I'm thinking about going that route, it would allow me to replace the stock water temp/oil pressure gauges with more accurate ones and give me room for two additional readings as well.
From my research it seems as though in addition to replacing the water temp and oil pressure gauges I should get air/fuel and EGT which would give me a good basis for making sure I don't blow my engine while modding or driving around and that I have ample warning when **** is about to hit the fan before it does.
The prob with the spa dual gauges is there's a limit as to the combos they come in:
http://www.spatechnique.com/dualgauges/dualgauges.htm
It appears the only way to get an EGT is in a combo with boost but I don't need another boost gauge as I'm happy with my current one.
Ideally I would do something like:
Gauge 1: Volts / Water Temperature
Gauge 2: Oil Pressure / Oil Temperature
And then I would hook the oil temp gauge up as a EGT but in my ignorance I don't know if this is even possible or if the gauge can't report readings that high (Is there a difference between the EGT gauge itself and any other temperature gauge?). I'm fairly confident that the EGT readings would be higher than for oil temperature although I'm not positive on that either.
If someone could give me some help on what sort of gauges I'll actually need (I don't plan to go crazy on the mods, probably do an intercooler, cold air intake, boost controller, ecu upgrade next) that would be helpful, and maybe how I should fit all of those into 2 spa dual gauges so I can keep it within the gauge cluster.
The other thing that I have seen posts on are fuel pressure gauges and oil temperature gauges, when would I need these? I haven't seen them mentioned in most posts on suggested upgrade paths.
Thanks for your help!
Steve

I have Boost & A/F (will be switching to EGT at some point soon) in my A-pillar. Then in my dual pod in the center channel speaker location I have a Water Temp and an Oil Temp. At some point, I'll be swapping out the stock oil pressure gauge in favor of a better one (Defi or something), OR doing the linearization mod for the stock oil pressure gauge. I believe that's shown on this site.... http://www.scuderiaciriani.com/rx7/ but I'm having trouble locating it at the moment. Good luck with your new car.

Oil temp would be next on my list. after that fuel pressure can help with diagnosis (not starting, stumbling, injecors, pump, etc). If you want another duel then try oil temp/pressure.
Boost, water temp, oil temp ...fuel pressure, oil pressure.
(in order of my must have preference/most needed to least needed)

Be careful with that mod.
I asked Max about that once and while he totally loves the setup he did say that the gauges sometimes blanked out due to heat behind the dash.
