what gauges to get?
Hi Guys,
I have a 94 FD with downpipe, M2 ecu upgrade and a stock airbox mod. I don't plan to go too much further with mods. I am going to put in 3 gauges under the single unit stereo. I want to keep it looking fairly stock, No pods. Probably boost, water temp &???
Any suggestions on gauge choices & brands would be helpfull.
Thanks, Adam

Do a search and you will get a lot of results.
Boost and water temp are absolutely necessary. For the third gauge, you may want to consider oil temp or exhaust gas temp.
As far as which brand, it depends on your sense of aesthetics.
Most of the higher priced gauges are fine. Some will argue that Autometer gauges are quality gauges as well. Certainly they are one of the least expensive.

sold the FD...kept the FB
If you really want to do it up, go with 2 on the pillar and 3 on your mount. Boost, water temp, fuel pressure, oil temp, oil pressure, exhaust temp. The more gauges you get, the more the Defi Link series makes sence, aside from great quality, you can record and play them all back in sync to help analize how everything is running.

i thought i heard somewhere that the omiri guages never came out. it basically depends on what style your looking for. i think the VDO Vision series looks pretty stock, but others might disagree...
and like Mr. Stock said, boost and water are a must.
just don't over-do it and end up looking like this:

I have been looking for quite a while. I like the Omori gauges. for now I don't have any just decited when The time comes that they look the best. I think I read a while ago that they finally have the matching ones for us out. try the rx7 store. they will know

The omori gauges run over $600 for the 3 gauges and faceplate. That seems pretty steep to me. It may include the sending units and wiring (it better)
I can get 3 VDO gauges with wiring and sending units for $125 including shipping. They look nice, and are back lit with an orange light available.
Any one know anything about VDO?

VDO is good quality, alot of the street rod guys like them and use them. I think they like them alot because they have a "vintage" looking gauge line-up. I would rate them in quality about the same as autometer.
Omori is good, I haven't heard of anyone in the states using them but they do make a tachometer that goes to something like 16,000 or 18,000 rpm just for a fun tidbit of info.
IMO, if you're on a budget I would get autometer or VDO at least just for now or you could even see if you can find some used blitz or greddy gauges on ebay for a decent price.

I ordered the 3 VDO gauges today. Looks nice, decent price. Should be around $150 for everything, including shipping and the face plate. It will look something like this:
