I use 93 citgo as well as 93 amoco/BP. I have actually heard that these cars do not react well to shell gas from a very experienced rotary mechanic, who also happend to be an *******, but he knows his ****. This was back in 2002.

It would be FD33 for american owners, FD3S is the japanese chassis code, don't know what it is for the euros or anything. I run 93, only one place here in town sells it, I pay 2.10 a gallon right now.

A 76 station in Woodland Hills has 100. Try searching on their website. It might be around Topanga Blvd.

**edit** Here is a list of all the 76 stations in California. Call the ones in Woodland Hills and Conoga Park. http://www.76.com/76locator/Distribu...p.asp?State=CA

Octane levels aren't everything. Higher octane levels dont necessarily mean more power, just more compression resistance.

All petrol over here is 95ron or higher and wait for it..its 80pence (roughly1.5dollars) per LITRE at the cheapest!! and oil prices are going up..god damn i wish i lived in america..cheap petrol..and loadsa RX-7 stuff!!

i wish i could say the same. There are some gas stations in Western NC you don't stop at for "Deliverance" reasons.

Some of you guys need to come to Alabama for gas. Every gas station has 93 and I've got a gas station 5 minutes from my house that I can get 93, 112, and 119 right out of the pump LOL

Maybe I should start shipping it to you guys that are out West hahaha.

I think they use different rating systems in the US than in other parts of the world.

I know, it's sad. We went to visit my wife's family down in the hills of Arkansas. They have 93 everywhere yet "in the big city" up in KC very few places have it.

Smile it's a gas

Mazda mechanic claimed rotory doesnt need high octane since they are relatively low compression. Mine is stock. He recommended 87 octane, counter to the 92 recommendation in the owners manual. That could save a few pennies.
He recommended Chevron gas for the Techron cleaner for the injectors.

Perhaps there are boost regimes and customizations that have a significant effect on the octane question?

I'd stick with the 92 or better, even if your stock. It maybe low compression, but apex seals won't tolerate even a one of two "pings" like a piston engine. The higher octane will give you that safety margin.
I do use the Chevron injector/fuel system cleaner 2 or 3 times a year. From what I understand it's good stuff.

Your mechanic is a *&#$ idiot. I don't recommend going back to him again.

The reason the 13B-REW is "relatively low compression" is due to a small contraption attached to the left side of the engine called a turbo. It tends to increase combustion pressures far beyond what any "high compression" NA engine can achieve-- thus the need for low compression combustion chamber volumes, and high octane fuel.

Yes, there is one: following the manufacturer recommendations if your engine is stock. They tend to do a bit more R&D than your local mechanic.
