Talking What is the FD made of?

Sorry for the question, but I was wondering if the FD was steel or aluminum

Feel free to flame for the question, I won't take it personal.

LOL

Thanks

~Jesse

The FD has an aluminum hood and steel body. Bumpers are polyurethane.

I was wondering if there is a company that makes aluminum or fiberglass doors for the FD.

For weight reduction purposes.

Actually the body is made out of high strength aircraft grade steel, that's why it's so damn thin and easy to dent. CarbonMan makes carbon fiber doors, pricey items and not DOT legal.

Headlamp covers are friggin' PLASTIC....I know for sure!

For those considering fiberglass panels as a "lightweight" replacement, forget it. It is going to be heavier.

Mazda Motorsports has the doors/rocker panels in CF for the IMSA GT body kit.

About $2300 for both doors.

Or you can get the whole body kit for $11k.

I don't think it is DOT legal though.

The interior is made of plastic, you might have some leather. Depending on the previous owner your exhaust might have an eeensy weensy bit of titanium in it. the exhaust hangers are rubber too.

If you can find a fender off of an FD pick it up. This mere act will annihilate any ideas you have of "weight reduction" with carbon fiber on any but the largest panels.

OEM intercooler piping is made out of the weakest plastic known to man. The couplers are made of egg shells.

The front fenders are aluminum too, and the front/lower section of the rear shock towers is also aluminum. The seats are fiberglass, bumper reinforcements fiberglass, heck even the gas pedal assembly is plastic to reduce weight.
