FD=Fantastic Drive in Japanese of course....

Don't feel bad. I asked the same damn question (just not in the open like this). FD3S is what the car is called in Japan

FC3S - Second Gen
FB3S - First Gen

 

It's the body code, kinda like the Fox body mustang and the F-Body camaro, etc...

If you look at the vin on a 93-95 rx7 you'll find FD in it and if you look at most of the parts on the 93-95 rx7 they'll have FD written on them as well.

Anyway, the FB, FC, and FD come from the fourth and fifth digits in the VIN's of RX-7's. Unless it's an early 1st gen., then your first four VIN digits will be JM1F.
