Hot transmisson

Hey guys,
New owner/member here. Looked through search and couldn't find the answer, so maybe someone can help. My tranny gets so hot that if I touch the plastic or carpeting around it I get burned. Is this normal, or is there a remedy for it. Thanks.

Well, I don't think you should get burned... But they are known to heat up the trans tunnel quite nicely...Mine melted the hot glue I used to put a switch in the ashtray...haha that sucked. And Even if I park in the shade, the car is like 7,000 degrees when I get in!!

If you really want to help, tap a line out of it and install a tranny cooler or two. If your tranny is auto then you already have one, but you can add another thin aftermarket one behind the original in front of the passenger front wheel hub ... or you could stick it somewhere in the radiator/condensor passages (this area in my car has changed so much I don't know where to tell you to put it, so just figure something out). If it's not auto, you could install an aftermarket one in that spot or you could pick up an auto tranny cooler. If your car is an R1 or R2, you can install one behind either oil cooler ... or in the radiator passages already mentioned.

Heat

Alot of the time the heat build up in the tranny tunnel is due to the stock pre-cat and cat clogging. Once you change to aftermarket downpipe and midpipe, the temp will drop ALOT. That's what I noticed on alot of my friend's car compare to mine which still has both stock cats.

I agree with Blackbeast. It's most likely a clogged precat if you still don't have a DP. Also, flush the tranny fluid if it smells burnt. Lastly, you could be missing some heat shields on the precat or main cat, causing the heat to go thru the chasis.

I had that problem also when I bought my car. check the rubber shifter boot under the console (not the leather one) the one under the console mine was torn and rotten I replaced it with one from mazda and that really helped with the heat. if yours is torn it is letting heat from under the car get in and is getting trapped under the console and causing it to heat up try this and let me know what happens.
