What does your FD Weigh?

I have a owners manual for my 92 FD (series 6) and it states that the car weighs 668 pounds (1473kg). I find this hard to believe as my last car was 1510kg and was a HELL of a lot harder to push oround then the RX7.

Have any of you weighed your street trim RX7?

FYI, the 1473kg/3240lb weight is the Gross weight, meaning the weight of the car with a driver and a full load of cargo(it's the maximum ammount of weight the chasis can tow)

I have a 93 base that I am hoping weighs less than 2700lbs. I have removed a ton of parts but the roll bar and full 4" exhaust aren't light. If I make 400whp and weigh 2700lbs then it will have almost the same power/weight ratio as my 350Z had at 3165lbs and 465whp. We'll see in a few weeks I guess.

My, at the time, stock base FD weighed 2770lbs. This was using actual car scales, not a truck stop scale. What is everyone using for scales?

that is seems to be allot of weight. what is 1/4 mile for a stock one like this?

I don't think many people with autos drag race their cars, but if I had to guess I'd say your car probably runs mid-high 14s

wow that's not cool at all if you say mid-high 14's. i was thinking of doing auto to manual swap. I want it to be low-mid 13. Upgrading exhaust and intake will drop by much?

5 speed swap with just full exhaust will get you in the high 12s low 13s if you can drive at all. With an auto, well, some members get upset when I speak the truth about them. Just do the 5 speed swap and never look back.

Just look at Jacob Cartmills thread about weighing his fd. His car has pretty basic upgrades and it weighed around 2650. My car better weigh less than 2500 and it will have all the factory exterior pieces. No carbon fiber stuff for me.

Hey man i fully agree with you. I don't know what dome *** Japanese's engineer came out with an idea of installing automatic transmission in sports car like RX-7.
Cars like this should only have stick-shift, no excuse.

But what the hell My rx7 only got 40k miles and it's silver/red touring so for I got $8k into the car. And as far as for the auto to manual swap I got manual FD in my garage for parts. So really no money involved in doing a swap. Labor is free because i'm doing a job.

dont forget if your fat try and loose weight instead of taking out all the parts in the car to make up for it!

how is your single turbo kit lighter than the stock twins? your running a massive turbo. that has to outweight the twins by a good bit.

your prob also running a much larger intercooler and radiator setup with your turbo. i just dont see how you came up with the figure you did, sorry.

Single turbos are lighter, because they don't have the massive iron log manifolds... Gene Felber recorded saving 35 lbs going from twins to a 35R.

Stock IC/rad is typically lighter than aftermarket, but since we're talking about AL parts, it's still not much overall once you account for all the stock brackets and crap.

If you're starting with a base or R car, the exhaust system alone has the 50-70 lb. potential.
