Question What does this sensor and solenoid do?

Hey guys, i just was checking over my engine bay for any leaks since my new rebuild 2 months ago. I know i hooked up this sensor, but i guess the clip is broken so it wiggled off. Its at the far side of the UIM, closest to the windshield. It has a white plug that plugs into it, it's a black cylinder with "Desno" on it in red writing, its right by the accelerated warm up coolant intake for the UIM.

What does this do excally? Im just curious cause im not sure how long it has been off for.

Cheers

Mark
