get a powerfc and set it to 12 lbs, u should be just fine
i know others on here will jump on me for this but 2 lbs over stock isnt really a big deal as long as u supply more fuel... hence the pfc. if you really wanna be safe with the boost then get a profec-b as well, its one of the simplest boost controllers out there and its works great. good luck

u said just the essentials... and those r the essentials.
if you want to run a little safer and more reliable then i suggest a downpipe, catback, and a K&N filter.

You want to run 12PSI, get a boost controller to up it with.

A downpipe should be installed on ALL FD's just to get rid of the heat chamber hanging from the turbos, but it isn't going to keep you from boosting to 12PSI unless it's clogged.

Get a dp as your first mod, very important
then move to a boost gauge and power fc.
This will get you to 12 psi if you just want the boost
but you can always get a catback, intake, ic, etc.
to make your car faster. More boost helps but so
will more mods

sorry, you want the boost gauge so you can monitor how much boost you are pushing as to not spike, hopefully.

ttpowered is absolutely correct, i dont know how i missed that. your first thing to do should be to get a good boost guage so that you can actually monitor your boost

You can, and in fact I'm doing it right now, but I think its pretty hard to see when your actually boosting, thats just my opinion, obviously having 2 things on the screen and mounted in a good local can make a difference.

yes you can but good luck. unless you have a passenger keepin an eye on the commander its pretty much useless. and even then the boost is displayed in kg and it jumps around so much that gettin an actual reading isnt that simple, in my opinion getting a good boost guage is the best way to go.

There's always the manual boost controller as seen on Rob Robinette's site.

i stated that the boost jumps around... so if it momentarily spikes 2 or 3 lbs then your gonna have a nice headache tryin to get an actual reading

and besides... doing that would mean that u have to do a WOT run before you can check ur results during which u coulda boosted 5 lbs over and blown ur motor already. while if you have a boost guage u can monitor it as you do ur run
