what to do for 400rwhp?

my fiancee and i have an agreement on my car... i'm not allowed to go past 400rwhp and she's not allowed to EVER even hint that i should sell it unless we have to get rid of it to pay the mortgage/rent or food...

eventually, my engine and turbos will go (strong right now though). what type of setup should i do after that? single? twins? i don't want to go past 15psi (if at all possible) i know that 400 is a pretty high number and all, but with a stock port, dp, hi-flow cat, cat-back, intake, 2 row FMIC, new injectors, PFC, and a new fuel pump whats the best route to take? its a daily driver now, in a year (or less) it will be my weekend car and show car (God willing)

i was thinking about a big single, but i know that you can do some wicked things with hi-flow twins too...

big single would be the easiest way to do it, and you can get rid of most your damn vaccum lines too

The easiest way to get there is buy another car to drive and start ripping into things on your seven.

Oh ya, a big single wouldn't hurt either.

i am buying another car soon but i need to get all the other goodies into my RX (means buy them) before i step up to the single (that seems to be a consensus) and i don't wanna put it on till i get a reman (might go with street port, not sure yet) that way there is less risk of throwing an apex seal through a new turbo thanks guys. sorry for the newb question, still learning

you wont get 400 rwhp on the twins at 15 psi thats for sure. I would go with a gt35/40 setup or something. good spool and your goal is right around where they like to be at. you should have told your wife 415 rwhp max, because hitting 400 might be a lil difficult without going over. Plus i know you want to be at 400 rather than 39X. that would **** me off, lol. good luck man.

On another note, a 400 rwhp daily driver? maybe you should get a supra? seems better for what you want to do with it. Things break easily with that much power.

15 psi and 400 rwhp will never happen on twins. Single is your only choice, do yourself a favor and get one the tops out there. If not you will unwantingly increase your boost threshold but not be able to take advantage of anything higher than 15psi. I have only read but I think rx6 is good for 400 but it may be at more boost than that. Why only 15 psi?

the FD won't be my daily driver at that point in time... the reason i don't wanna go more than 15psi is because its kinda my safe point for the engines i just feel like the thing will hold out longer at 15 than at 19 ya know? its not set in stone... it was a kind of arbitrary choice to be quite honest, i just want the engine to last more than 15k miles

if i get to like 415rwhp, i don't think it'll be an issue... she got really paranoid when i started talking about garaging the car for a year or two and doing a 20b swap when the 13 pops cause she's heard me talking about how much power those can do... i think its a good compromise though, right? it'll be 40Xhp not 39X cause yes... that will **** me RIGHT off

For a guaranteed "more reliable"(dare I say...) 400rwhp there's no getting around you're going to end up going single. People claim close to 400rwhp or even 400rwhp(with BNR stage 3's) however you can't denie the simplification you get with going single turbo and not having to worry about boost patterns/vacum lines for days. Don't go too big IMO. And for a good street driver you want a car that's of good size but not huge. A huge turbo is good for huge numbers but if you can't make that # at a pump gas available psi then you're IMO limiting your hp you can really use.(for a street car) Porting will help but if you use a good size turbo it might not be neccasary for 400rwhp.

So you want 400rwhp on stock twins? Well I know of a guy on the east coast that has a daily driving street ported 10sec car running about 400rwhpp. Then again this guy does everything by himself. He ported his own and tuned it himself. From what I know he uses his car every single day. This is a rare case since the twins are pretty hard for just anyone to push out 400HP with. So unless you know exactly what youre doing I would just go with a streetport single turbo setup. Since running the stock twins for 400HP is pretty damn hard and not alone not to reliable unless youre as nice as this guy is over here on the eastcoast....

good luck

Jay

don't bother with twins, they are crap. I wish I had a little bit more cash to go single this second.

you don't need any porting, save your money and don't fall into the hype. Look at ErnieT's time's.

Very easy to acheive 400rwhp, only two steps:

1. Remove rice burning rotary engine.

2. Install gas burning detroit V8

Even though thats insulting to me i can't help to find it really funny! lol!

A greddy T78 would be a good turbo for this guy, right?

It was an idea and the poster meant it as a joke, but some people feel thr need to take it as an insult or that people aren't "educated".. Next time just say "Yeah you could do that if you want, but it's not for me.."

From most of the dyno's I've seen on a t78, they usually don't make 400rwhp at 15 psi however it's been a while since I've seen a t78 dyno so maybe someone has hit this magic mark?

maybe i'm looking for too much power? what if i went with a smaller turbo with better spool... it would be nice to have the power earlier and more steady than just peaky in the power band? i really appreciate all the input guys. i have alot to learn about this kinda stuff. i've heard that a T78 can do about 425 at 15psi if tuned correctly... but then, who knows. i'm not sure i want that kind of lag. i've been thinking about the RB85 turbo kit that AMRAAM has been talking about lately. the dyno curves they post are really impressive. i know i won't be getting those numbers, but i do like the way the curves look. at 4k rpm its already putting down more to the ground (hp and torque) than i am now. i do have a question though, their runs go to 9.5k rpm... how do they do that? i know the red is at 8k, can you safely over rev it like that?

i guess it may not be all that much smaller than a T78 now that i look at the picture again. whats a good BB turbo that would get me more around 360rwhp but with a faster spool?

mods, this seems to be turning into a single turbo discussion, if you want you can move it (obviously) but i'd appreciate if you could keep it hear since i get ALOT more traffic in this part of the forum.

i don't own a t78 but from what i HEAR is that the lag is not all that bad. with proper tuning and a good street port you should be all set. im not sure about the rwhp w/the t78, maybe you should just go with a t88 to be safe, lol.

i hope you got money to burn. it starting to sound like a expensive plan.

If you are now concidering 360 to the wheels with a fast spool I don't think you can beat the stock sequentials for that. With all the bolt ons the stockers really can make the car pretty damn fast at 1 bar. I was plenty happy with the power my car put out with that setup...only reason i switched was because the stock turbos were ancient and finally gave out on me...plus I always just wanted a single.

I had pretty much the exact set up you listed in your opening post...only differences were: light weight flywheel, ignition wires, and I had the m2 med IC instead of the FMIC and the car was pretty bad ***. I think you should do those mods first then see how you like it.

Yes. We all know him (rxtuner mag, he's in there). Unfortunately he's one of the VERY FEW who can get that out of the twins. I'm really confused as to why so many people see 400 as the magic number... 360-385 (achievable on stockers) will run with Porsche GT2's down. But yes, a single is much easier to work on, fix, and maintain... I say go take a ride in a few single RX7s.. Find one that you like and go from there.

430-460 @ 15psi. Vosko pulled 459 at 15... And just think, at 15 it's just waking up.
